Yesterday, on Kansas City Live I talked about some ways to help you eat healthy if you are a grocery budget.
With that being said, I’m a big believer in making long-term investment up front to save you money in the long run. Those investments can be for a better mixer, produce savers, a drinking water system or a great small kitchen appliance.
Here are some of my favorites that I featured yesterday.
The Black+Blum Eau Good Water Bottle. I’ll admit it, I prefer to drink out of a bottle than a glass. This BPA-free water bottle has a charcoal filter so you can have amazing tasting water from anywhere (which is nice for work, the gym, or on the go.) The filter will last six months (and a replacement filter is only $3.70) – so when you break it out by month you are only spending $2.50 per month.
In addition, produce savers are a great way to help your fruits and veggies last longer. My favorite brands are Rubbermaid and Lock & Lock.
The Magic Bullet’s NutriBullet System is a great way to get the high power motor of an expensive blender for a fraction of the price. (And I didn’t say this on the segment, but half of the staff at KC Live owns the NutriBullet and LOVES it.) Because this machine is so powerful, you can thrown whole fruit or veggies (frozen or raw) and ice to make the perfect smoothie. The great thing about this system is it allows all the nutrients (fiber and vitamins) instead of just the juice (and no fiber) with a traditional juicer. Plus you can also use it for other blending and food processing needs.
And finally, my new favorite small kitchen appliance, the T-fal ActiFry Low-Fat Multi-Cooker. It makes the most amazing french fries from normal potatoes (russet, sweet, golden) that are crispy and tender with only one tablespoon of oil. I’m honest when I say we use this three times a week. I realize the price tag is steep, but I can say without a doubt that I would buy it again if it were to break down tomorrow. I have never encountered a product that does such great job with virtually no oil.
