This giveaway has ended. Congrats to our winner, Ellen H.
What do you think of when you hear Kansas?
Dorthy? Toto? Flat? An awful stretch of I-70 on the way to Colorado? The “flyover” state?
I hope not. In fact, I really kind of love this place. The wheat fields. The Kansas skies. The rolling Flint Hills and hikes in the Tallgrass Prairie Nature Preserve. Visits to the salt mines and the Cosmosphere and Space Center. World class education. Historic places, Presidents, and Supreme Court decisions. Kansas is a great place to live, a great place to raise a family, and a great place to visit.
But what makes Kansas really special, in my opinion, is the people. Some famous like Jason Sudekis, Bob Dole and Eric Stonestreet. Some gone but not forgotten, like William Allen White, Thomas Hart Benton and Dwight D. Eisenhower. But mostly, just regular folks like you and I – Down-to-earth. Hardworking. Friendly. People who smile back.
I received a basket of goodies from the Kansas Farm Bureau, a non-profit advocacy organization that supports farm families in Kansas. Each item represented a unique place in Kansas, some I’ve been to before, and some I’ve not yet gotten to visit. What I love about local businesses like these are that they represent what makes Kansas great. Good, hardworking people. Business owners. Farm families. Real people.

One lucky KCM reader will win a basket of goodies like mine. I do hope all of you have the chance to explore the state this summer and meet some of the people that make this place great.
Be sure to visit:
Rabbit Creek Gourmet Foods, Louisburg
The Little Flower Farm, McLouth
Fritz’s Meats, Leawood
High Noon Saloon & Brewery, Leavenworth
Cashmere Gourmet Popcorn, Topeka

I love to see the sky in Kansas. Watching the storms roll in off the Rocky Mountains can be a wonderful and powerful sight. Not to forget about all of the sunsets, sky lines, and watching the clouds move across the sky. Endless hours of ever changing pictures.
