Summer is so close and the kids are pumped. They can’t wait to sleep in, hit the pool, play outside. It’s great.

It’s great until…it isn’t. There comes that point in even the best Summer when the kids utter those few words that make a mama cringe.

“I’m B-O-R-E-D”

Nails on a chalkboard, am I right? Of course we can think of a million things for them to do: vacuum the hall, clean the toilets…but what they really want is something new and exciting.  I definitely try to stock up on things to pull out over the course of the Summer. Games are great. The kids can pull them out on rainy days, or days when it’s just too darn hot to go outside. I also love things like NERF guns because they can be used inside or outside.  I blogged a lot at Christmas about the NERF Rebelle line. Aside from being an awesome concept about giving girls the power to fight back against brother, it has provided hours of dependable action at this house!

    definitely the park, although we did purchase a pool membership for this summer so we’ll see if that works too.

    We go to the reservoir go fishing and swimming. We also camp and go to a few festivals.

    We pull out the water balloons whenever I hear ‘I’m bored!’ Those can entertain my kids for hours!

    I enjoy scavenger hunts outside the house on the nice warm sunny summer days and we do inside hunts when it’s raining or too hot to play outside and it seems to keep the kids entertained for a little bit at least.

    I am in Lincoln, and we have a children’s zoo and children’s museum that the kids never tire of. Or if we had time we could make the short drive to Omaha.

    Have the kids pick out a new recipe, have them right the shopping list, go grocery shopping together – kids pull items off the shelf from the list, and make the recipe together.
