    I”m trying to teach them every day saving to reach long term goals.
    At this point, things like expensive toys or activities.

    We are teaching our daughter how to tithe at church and she’s doing great. Unfortunately now she just wants to search my purse for any change she can find to put in the offering plate and gets a little crazy about it….

    My son is only four but I am trying to teach him how saving money works and we are working on coming up with simple chores so he understands how to earn money. My only hope is that he is better at saving money and managing it than I am.

    My husband and I have been through he program and we want our kids to get on “board” too. It is like it doesn’t sink in when we explain the program. So seeing would be so much better especially winning all the bells and whistles too. Thanks!

    When my kids were born, I opened up 529 college accounts for them and when they started getting money for Christmas and birthdays, I have encouraged them to save at least 10%. I try to talk to them about their financial future, but kids being kids, they don’t think that far ahead.

    My goals are to teach my college bound son the importance of not over extending himself, and live on a budget. We already coupon together and he has toothpaste, deodorant, and toilet paper to last his freshman year.

    I would like for him to understand that spending money you don’t have won’t buy you happiness. That saving money is like hitting the lottery and that giving to charitable organizations makes your feel better in your soul than buying that DVD or CD etc.

    I have struggled my whole life with the consequences of poor financial management. About 6 months ago I started Dave Ramsey’s plan and it is already making a huge impact on my life and stress!
    My son put “Dave Ramsey” on his birthday list this year; I would love for us to go through this journey together. Sure wish someone had done this for me when I was a child.

    We opened savings accounts for our kids this past Christmas. (ages 15, 14, 11, 6 and one on the way)

    We told them when they get money (gifts, toothfairy etc) half will go in savings. Beyond that — we want them to understand what it means to save AND make good financial decisions. We want them to learn to spend and save wisely. We also want them to learn the importance of credit and how to get it, maintain it and do them both well.
