Earth Day is April 22, 2013.
And to be honest, it is my favorite non-holiday day.
I attribute my love of Earth Day to my hippie-esque Dad who planted more pine trees then I care to count, recycled before recycling was cool, made me take short showers to conserve water, reminded me to turn off my lights to conserve energy, and wouldn’t let me use aerosol hairspray in high school because of “greenhouse gases”.
(PS: It’s hard to have big mall hair without aerosol hairspray.)
But from a young age, my dad made me respect the land and it’s ability to heal itself or be so hurt it had a scar for life.
I’m so blessed to be an Aveeno Ambassador and be able to share with you some of the cool things that Aveeno does to make their footprint a little smaller on the planet. (They also have a high value Aveeno Coupon right now – Save $2.00 off any Facial Product.)
Did you know?
- Aveeno bottles are comprised of 48% pre-consumer recycled material.
- PURE RENEWAL’s formula is 90% renewable and produced using a low-energy, solvent-free process that yields zero waste.
- PURE RENEWAL’s starch-based formula, derived from potatoes, delivers the performance of traditional shampoo without releasing polluting chemicals into the environment.
So, to celebrate Earth Day, Aveeno and I are partnering up to give one lucky Kansas City Mamas reader Aveeno Earth Day Prize Package with:
- AVEENO® PURE RENEWAL™ Shampoo – naturally-derived cleansers carefully lift away impurities and rebalance hair’s optimal moisture
- AVEENO® PURE RENEWAL™ Conditioner – conditions and softens without weighing hair down, for more manageable hair
- AVEENO® PURE RENEWAL™ Dry Shampoo – refreshes hair for a clean, healthy look between washes
- Tree Planting Kit
Here’s How To Enter The Giveaway

I … use all natural cleaning products, try to buy clean foods, want to grow my own food (and chickens!), and I am not big into spending a bunch of money on junk or stuff I don’t need – trying to keep things simple I think is green.
Thanks for the giveaway! I love Earth Day too.

We have a small flock of chickens, whatever scraps of food they don’t eat, we compost.
We also plant native wildflower and shrub species for landscaping, so as to make sure the native pollinators of Missouri have their fill each year.
Were using refillable water bottles instead of store bought and using more plastic containers in lunches not plastic bags.

You can use reusable shopping bags everywhere–not just the grocery store. There are some really cute ones you could take to the mall or other shops. Some roll up tiny enough to carry several at a time in your hang bag until you need them.
