Giveaway: $100 Kohl’s Gift Card for Mother’s Day

Last weekend I went on a girls’ weekend with my best friend from college and her sisters.

It was awesome. There is something so precious about old friends. People who have known you for 20+ years and knew you before husbands, kids, mortgages, careers and failures.

One of the days we spent shopping. You know that “girl shopping” where you try on a bunch of clothes (even though you know you won’t buy all of them) and your friends encourage you to try something different. Something you would have never picked yourself, but it looks awesome when you put it on.

And while we were having a great time, one person in our group wasn’t. She wouldn’t try on anything. And while she sat with us, laughed with us, encouraged us – I knew she wasn’t having the best time because she was uncomfortable with her weight. She had gained some weight and was at her heaviest.

We’ve all been there. I have. Trying on clothes and having nothing fit right. Not because the clothes don’t fit, but because you don’t feel good about yourself. And it doesn’t matter what anyone else says – you don’t feel your best.

There isn’t a rhyme or reason to weight gain. It is usually a combination of many things that take your time – husbands, kids, bills, careers, activities, and the like. In most cases, we as mothers, put everyone else’s needs and schedules above our own.

So when Kohl’s sent me $100 gift card to purchase something for a special mom who deserves it, I thought of my friend. I knew she wanted to recommit to working out again (she mentioned it several times over the weekend) and I thought the best way to do that was to get her some new workout clothes that she would feel good in.

So I purchased her these two outfits. It was a bit of a combination of Nike, Fila and Tek Gear.

I spent $83.59. But had a 30% Kohls’ Coupons code, so the total was $58.50 plus tax and I earned $10 in Kohl’s Cash.

I sent her the remainder of the gift card and told her to buy something special once she loses a few pounds and those clothes are too big for her.

And because I think all of us “mamas” should have a special Mother’s Day, I’m giving away a $100 Kohls Gift Card to one lucky winner.

My sister just had her 4th round of chemotherapy a couple weeks ago and although she doesn’t feel like it right now I would love to do something special for her!!     My mom has been fighting stage 4 Breast Cancer for 2 years now, but was first diagnoased in 2002. She is our complete miracle. I also was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago, but caught it early. We have had sooo many ups and downs. 6 years ago she lost the use of her left arm because of breast cancer, and she was the one who made her appt at the Mayo clinic. She saw 4 doctors who blew her off. We believe she saved her own life. Happy Mothers day to all of the mothers out there young and old.

Every holiday/birthday/just because get together she always prepare the best meals for family and friends. She goes above and beyond at christmas with cakes, pies, and candies making sure everyone gets their favorites.

    Like your friend, I am very unhappy with my weight right now. I keep saying, “I need to lose the baby weight” but my son is three now so that excuse does not hold water.     Just yesterday, my husband and I were in the car running some errands. He mentioned to me how he had talked to his grandparents earlier in the day. His grandmother told him that his mother had mentioned how she is really in need of some new clothes. She recently lost a lot of weight. Her health was at risk, for she has been diabetic since she was a toddler and it was extremely important for her to lose weight for her health. Over the past two years, the weight has really come off. Last fall, when things were starting to look up for her, she suffered a series of mini strokes. Today, she is feeling better and is starting to piece together some of the memories that were lost due to the strokes. For her 51st birthday in February, we bought two shirts from Kohls for her. We remembered her telling us all her shirts were too big and baggy on her. When she opened her gift, we will never forget how genuinely happy she was about those two shirts. She couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful they were. The next day, we received pictures by email of her wearing her new shirts. It was such a great feeling to see her so excited about them and to see her feel good about herself. So when we were in the car yesterday and my husband mentioned getting her a few new clothing items for Mother’s Day, I knew exactly where we would be going. Today, I looked through the mail pile to see if we had a percent off, but as of right now I have not seen anything. A gift card would be the perfect gift. I like the idea of buying her a shirt or two and then giving her the rest to go pick out her own things. I think it would be fun to take her out to lunch on Sunday, give her the Mother’s Day gift with the gift card, and take her shopping right then and there. She has had a hard life and now in her 60s, I don’t know how she does so much for others, when her health is declining so fast!     My mom has been out of work since she had to have sudden open-heart surgery a few years ago. After that she couldn’t pay her bills, which led her to lose her car, her apartment, and eventually she had to move in with my sister in California. She hasn’t been in the best place since not having her happy outlet anymore (she loved her job!). She FINALLY got a temporary contract job just a few weeks ago, but because she is basically starting from scratch financially, she doesn’t have more than one pair of work pants (she told me she was embarrassed about it). I would love to send her this so she could get a few new outfits for work. I think it would really boost her confidence and make her feel good about herself again. 🙂
