School started about a month ago. For some reason after the second week, the diligence my DS once showed to brush teeth, eat breakfast, comb hair and put on shoes has turned in to a constant whine and cheese fest about how “You are always asking me to do something all…the…time….”
Yep, ’cause I’m your mama.
However, I don’t enjoy the “mama” roll all the time. (There are sometimes I love it – but that is for another post.) It gets old for everyone to hear mama say for the umpteenth time, “Did you get your homework into your backpack?” or “Did you remember your lunch box?”
So when the good folks at Talkatoo asked me to review their nifty little recorder – a light bulb went off in my head. (Well, maybe near my head.)
A Talkatoo is a cute mini recording device that can hold up to 30 seconds of recorded messages (and can be re-recorded). It looks like a necklace or charm and would be great to clip to backpacks, lunchboxes, belt loops , etc.
And I thought, what would happen if instead of my voice “asking me to do something all….the…time…” it was DS voice reminding him of the things he needs to do before school or what items he needs to bring home from school? (Same problem, only reverse.)
What if the Talkatoo served as a small reminder in a really, cool little package? Could it possibly solve the yelling matches that happen in 5 out of 10 mornings as we are trying to get in the van?
I want go as far to say that it solved all the yelling matches. But it helped DS remember the items he was responsible for and get them in his backpack. It also was really nice to change the message to end-of-day items when the start-of-day items were getting redundant.
Also, I can see how the Talkatoo would be a great way to stay connected with your kiddos if they were having a tough time transitioning to school, daycare or preschool. Or if they were going through a rough patch where they weren’t getting along with their classmates. An encouraging word from Mom or Dad may be all they need to make it through the day. Because even though they might tune our voice out most of the day, it is the one voice that can make everything better.
If you are interested in the Talkatoo, you can either order it online for $16.99 or you can stop by either of these Hallmark Gold Crown Stores and pick one up for $14.99. They are on a limited distribution in the Kansas City Area – so these are the only two Hallmark stores where they are sold.

PS: I was paid to review the Talkatoo. However, my DS ability to forget about everything and the opinions in the post are all mine.

Love this! I want one for each of my girls. They are both forgetful just like their mother. I want them to use it to hear their tone of voice too. I think nagging would be better received that way. I mean how many times can I ask them if they have brushed their teeth.
