Thirsty Thursday is the quest to drink good, cheap wine that is $10.00 and under. Want some more recommendations? Check out the past cheap wine posts on Thirsty Thursday.
One of my favorite things about Thirsty Thursday is that I get recommendations from my readers.
Today’s selection – 2008 Hey Mambo Sultry Red Wine from California is a recommendation from Kim W. (Thanks Kim!)
This wine is another blend of Syrah, Barbera, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Malbec, and Alicante Bouchet grapes. (So yes, everything but the kitchen sink.)
It is not as fruit forward as some of my previous picks. In fact, it reminded me of the more expensive and subtle Napa/Sonoma Cabs. And for the price point this is a rare and really good thing.
The nose was amazing – cherry fruit and worn leather – with a touch of pepper. Followed by a full and fleshy and tannins that make this an amazing food wine.
I kept thinking it would be awesome with a fresh-grilled cheeseburger, fresh sausages for Werner’s or a small patio steaks and grilled potatoes.
If you are red wine drinker – I highly recommend this wine. You will remember all the great things about the Napa/Sonoma wines, but your pocket book will think you are still buying Yellow Tail.
Don’t forget to use the Thirsty Thursday Wine List when creating your wine shopping list.
Note: This wine should be available at most liquor outlets. Please be responsible when you drink wine – and never drive drunk…seriously, that is just stupid in this day in age.
What about you? Have a wine you would like to recommend? Leave a comment or link up because life is too short to drink bad wine.
