February is the month for love (and also a great time for extras smooches for the kids too!). So, I thought I’d share some of the Kansas City attractions and activities that we love this month!
Crown Center’s Newest Kids’ Exhibit
Kids can learn about all kinds of careers in the new Funville! exhibit at Crown Center. This adorable and interactive attraction allows kids to out a variety of careers: archeologist, entertainer, farmer, astronaut, sports player, teacher and more! We love encouraging kids to think about their future.
Chip’s Chocolate Factory
You’ll fall in love with the amazing smell of chocolate before you even walk into Chip’s Chocolate Factory in Crown Center. And then you’ll have to decide which treat you love the most — a slice of fudge, an amazing caramel apple or maybe a cake pop. Want to learn more about chocolate and how the fudge is made? Contact Chip’s to learn about the fun tours offered.
Exploring at the Nelson
We love that the Nelson-Atkins Museum is free! That’s a big plus for all us families trying to save for college, right! Try out your own scavenger hunt at the museum this month – seek out pieces of art that have hearts, or the color red. The Nelson also offers some fun kids activities on the weekends, along with some great interactive gallery guides too.
Animal Attractions
If you haven’t heard, we have a few new residents in KC:
Berlin is the new (female) polar bear now residing at the Kansas City Zoo. Visitors can see Berlin and Nikita at different times during the day – they are getting acquainted a little more each day.
And we also are now home to a green sea turtle! Gertrude is the newest resident at SeaLife Aquarium and is scheduled to arrive by Valentine’s Day. She comes to us from the same Florida Aquarium where Winter, the dolphin who starred in A Dolphin’s Tale, has lived.
Be a Nature Lover
Head out for a visit to Ernie Miller Nature Center where kids can attend Animal Tales storytimes, Preschool workshops or get involved in the Great Backyard Bird Count this month. Families can also enjoy some fun nature programs and great hiking trails.
Another wonderful place to discover nature is at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center. They offer some AMAZING workshops for kids of all ages — fishing, owls, bird hikes, survival skills, storytimes and more! And we also love their hands-on kids exploration area along with the many native animals that call Burr Oak home.
Enjoy some time with the kids this month!
This post is by my friend Jacquie Fisher who is the author and curator of KCEdventures. KC Edventures is an online resource that provides parents & grandparents with ideas to keep kids creative, curious and connected to the world around them. (In my speak, they give you ideas that combine hands-on, with books, and places to go in Kansas City.)
