In the coupon classes I teach, I discuss meal planning and the need to have at least 15 recipes that make someone (not everyone, just someone) in your family happy and rotate them monthly. In addition, you need to try three new recipes each month so those last fifteen recipes don’t turn out to be Chicken Casserole.
And usually people ask, “How do you find three new recipes?”
I have several sources.
- I subscribe to Taste of Home Magazine.
- I utilize AllRecipes.com.
- I have a cookbook addiction.
I will admit to owning a “more than I should” amount of cookbooks.
They provide me inspiration.
Something about the beautiful pictures of Cream of Mushroom Soup or Chinese Pot Roast make me believe that I can make that dish and it will taste amazing because it LOOKS amazing.
However, over the years, I’ve learned that just because something LOOKS amazing doesn’t mean it will always TASTE amazing.
Luckily my new favorite cookbook – Big Bowl of Love – not only has the most amazing food photography, it has some of the most amazing recipes too.
(Seriously, I HEART this cookbook and it’s simplistic ingredient list in a BIG way.)
And I’m fortunate enough to share (3) Big Bowl of Love Cookbooks that are signed by Cristina Ferrare with Kansas City Mama readers.

My favorite cookbooks are the ones I get as fundraisers from schools or churches. People only submit their best recipes.
I love all my local cookbooks such as my church cookbooks or other organizations. You know those recipes are family favorites to someone. It’s also nice to look at the recipes and remember people who are dear to you.
My favorite cookbook is Cheap Fast Good by Beverly Mills & Alicia Moss. My copy has broken binding in two places, loose pages, and lots of stains. 😀 Even though I have about 20 cookbooks, I don’t open the others very often. This is a good book to utilize common pantry or stockpile items.
My favorite cookbook(s) are the diabetic cookbook and the fix it and forget it cookbook.

Oooo! I LOVE cookbooks. My newest one with GREAT pics is Our Best Bites. I started folding down corners of recipes I wanted to try until about half way through. I realized that was pointless since I was tagging almost every page. Sigh. I love good food.

My fav cookbook right now is one that my cousin put together with copies of some of my grandmother’s recipes cards after she died last fall. She planned this ahead of time with my g’ma and spent a lot of time getting it to look really professional with special stories from my g’ma, mom, aunts, and uncle to include, and had it printed in a nice little books for all the kids and grandkids. My Grandma Rose was a wonderful cook and baker, and I love having it!

My Grandma Ro0se was 97 when she passed away last Fall. One of my cousins put together a cookbook of Grandma’s clippings from her recipe notebook over her lifetime, traditional family & Czech recipes, and photos of Grandma with family & in her garden. This is my favorite cookbook & most recent treasure!
