As I teach more and more classes, I hear the same lament time and time again…
“I can shop, I just can’t seem to get a meal plan together.”
And I can relate.
When we struggle with a meal plan it seems we struggle in at least one of these areas.
- Time to Prepare the Meal – What? It’s 5 o’clock! I have everything for lasagna, but I can’t make it in time.
- Not the Right Ingredients for a Meal – I know I want to make lasagna, be we are out of noodles and tomato sauce.
- No Plans for the Meal – It’s 5 o’clock? Hmm…wonder what we should have tonight? I don’t know, I can’t think of anything.
And sometimes we struggle in multiple areas, not just one. Or we have it together one week, only to have it fall apart on week two.
Since I know we all struggle with meal planning, I was excited and skeptical to review 4 Ingredients: More Than 400 Quick, Easy, and Delicious Recipes. Cookbook.
Excited…because I love the concept of simple meals. Skeptical…because I like my food to taste good and not be bland.
But what I found is a great resource if you struggle with any meal planning issues.
Why?
- Since there are only four ingredients, it doesn’t take long to make a meal.
- Since there are only four ingredients, your chances for not having an ingredient are slim.
- Since there are only four ingredients (and over 400 choices) – you can easily find something to put on your table.
- And each recipe can be prepared with a simple pot or pan, measuring cup and spoons.
I love that this book strips it down and focuses on the joy of simple cooking. And simple cooking that tastes wonderful.
Other notes: The book also had a great section on homemade sauces, salsas, and dressings, and a bunch of ideas for kiddo lunches and snacks.
And I’m lucky because I get to give THREE of these books away to some lucky readers.

I struggle to cook every night. My kids are most challenging from 4:30–6:30!

My kids are quite picky eaters. One eats this, the other not. I’m not a short order cook…
This cook book would help save my family money because many times it’s 5 pm and we just decide to go pick something up at a drive through or order take out–even though our cabinets and freezers are full of food simply because we don’t know what to make!
Don’t give up “girl”! you can do it!
Time with all the sports schedules in the evenings!

My kids are picky eaters and add food allegies to the picture, and cooking for them is not too much fun.
I struggle with finding different things that are healthy and that my kids will eat. It seems I make the same things every week.
I get your daily emails 🙂

It’s just my husband and me now. I get busy on the computer, or with a knit or crochet project. Next thing I know it’s time to eat. Time to eat?!? That’s way beyond time to think about preparing a meal. So I look to see what I have that can go together quickly. A 4 ingredient cookbook would certainly head me in the right direction.
Everyone is already starving by the time we get home from work, so it’s hard to find quick and healthy meals.
I struggle with a really picky eater and then trying to “mix it up” instead of having chicken every night. ( I have one who won’t eat beef or pork)
my super struggle is my husband is hungry at 5 p.m. my boys not till 7 and my little one has became super picky….so i struggle keeping it all warm and making something we will all eat and possibly all eat together…..
I recently went back to work full time after being a stay at home mom and its been struggle getting out of the mode of providing a full blown dinner every night. This would be a great book to find meals to prepare quickly.
i like u on FB as well……
I “like” you on FB.
i also get ur emails now…the 4 ingredient meal is a great concept cant wait to c it…..
I am NOT a very good cook and so all of the ingredients listed on most recipes intimidate me. If I’m really ambitious that week, I take my list to the store and then get frustrated because I can’t find all of the 5000 things I need but have never heard of. I think 4 ingredients would be manageable for a novice cook like me.
My difficulty is finding recipes that are cheap enough to feed six people and are also “friendly” enough for six different palates.
I have never been on top of this area-ever ! need menu planning help
I try to do a monthly menu and lately I have not found the engery to get it done for April – maybe my brain just wants a month off – but boy has it cost us the money. I have found myself in the store at least more than twice a week buying something for diner – whatever I feel like because of poor planning – meat still frozen, yadda, yadda, yadda. You all know the story. This book sounds awsome – how could you go wrong with 4 ingrediants??? Sounds like a challenge to me – and do I need one.

I work 2nd shift so it is really hard to find time to cook before I go to work.
I love cooking, but sometimes, I don’t feel like cooking. My husband comes back from work and says “I am super hungry” when I cannot come up with any idea. I need some help! Please!

I have a large family and we are always on the go. My husband also works odd shift and all this makes it difficult to spend much time in the kitchen, not to mention that I just don’t like to cook. This book sounds wonderful and probably a life saver on certain nights!
My problem is my kiddos after school activities they always have us in a hurry to make dinner!
I just don’t have time! Between 3 kids and my husband we are running all over the place all day every day. Sports take up a ton of our time. This book would be fantastic…especially because my daughter is just beginning to be really interested in cooking with me and this would be great for her to be able to follow! Thanks for the great giveaway!

I’m already a Facebook fan and love getting the updates there.
I need something that can be a quick go-to meal plan. I make a plan and try to stock the ingredients, but invariably something always comes up to change the plan! My house is full of hungry boys who would love for mom to win! 🙂

My problem is that everything I want to make takes more than 30-40 minutes and when I get home from work at 6 or 6:30 the last thing I want to do is cook something that won’t be ready to eat until after 7! I like easy and fast that also tastes good…. very challenging at times!

My biggest challenge is trying to fix dinner with my 2-year-old under my feet wanting attention. I try to fix things that are fast and easy while still being healthy. Quick meals that are healthy can be hard to find.
I love to cook, and I do great about planning exactly what meal will be which day of the week, but lately, I’ve been feeling burnt out. I’m running out of ideas for meals that take little prep or little time or cheap ingredients. Somehow I used to have hours to prepare a meal at night, but that time seems to have been stolen somewhere between a full-time job, a 4-year-old, and a baby on the way! I could use a new cookbook to fuel some inspiration!

My biggest challenge is gathering all of the ingredients I need. We are on a tight budget but I like to be creative in making different food. So I’ll have a great idea for something… but I rarely have all of the ingredients. 🙂

I find it too time consuming to cook on a daily basis.
