Yes, we are talking about champagne today.
Well, not technically champagne because then this wine would have to come from France. And since it is from California, we’ll say sparkling wine that acts like champagne.
For most of us, sparkling wine is like some important dignitary. One that only shows up to “special” occasions like New Year’s Eve, wedding receptions, engagements, etc. And since it is only brought out on those important occasions, it is hard to know if you liked the sparkling wine or you just like the occasion that it was toasted to.
And I think about champagne/sparkling wine in the same way.
At times champagne/sparkling wine can seem a bit juvenile. Something like a Bartle & James wine cooler with more bubbles and not pink. I never think about pairing it with food – cause it seems weird to serve it with a steak. And you never here men talking about this “great champagne” I had last week, like you do with red wine.
However, as I continue to drink wine and develop my pallet, I’ve realized there is a place for sparkling wine/champagne like Barefoot’s Bubbly Extra Dry in every day life. (‘Cause goodness know getting through a day can be a special occasion in our household.)
What I loved about the Barefoot’s Bubbly Extra Dry was that it wasn’t too sweet. It had a sweet apple nose – think of a really good honeycrisp apple – with a really nice clean and bubbly finish. This wine would pair amazingly with a berry (raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, blackberry) plate and a little hard white cheddar cheese. It is wine that compliments food without overpowering it like some wines can and often do.
So the next time you have an abundance of berries on hand – serve a glass of Barefoot’s Bubbly Extra Dry to your company or your significant other. They will feel special…because champagne has a way of doing that.
Note: This wine should be available at most liquor outlets. Please be responsible when you drink wine – and never drive drunk…seriously, that is just stupid in this day in age.
What about you? Have you tried any great wines lately? Either leave a comment or link up. Linkbacks are not required, but appreciated.

Hi Kelly,
Yes, I very rarely drink the sparkly stuff! Like you said, I always think of it for special occasions. I’ll have to give Barefoot a try mid-week sometime when I have had a really tough day- sure to make me feel better!
Thanks for the linky!

While I love champagne all on its on, this is great to know about. One of my all time favorite cake recipes is champagne cake with champagne frosting. This sounds perfect for baking too! Thanks for sharing.

Barefoot wines are great! They actually have a bunch of different bubblies- if you like sweet, their Sparkling Moscato is awesome. Their Bubbly Pinot Grigio is sooo good, too. Mix it with some Pomegranate juice and it’s uber yummy.
Check out their website for yummy recipes, too, like Moscato cake. SOOOO good! And cheap! They have it at Cosco and BJ’s for like $7 a bottle… I have some coupons for $1 off a bottle if anyone’s interested…

Walgreens has some sweet clearance on wine this week. At these prices you could stock up on a couple weeks of Thirsty Thursdays! I’m not much of a drinker (wine or otherwise) but it’s tempting at these prices.
