It was just announced that Amazon Instant Video is steaming on Xbox 360.
So, all videos you’ve purchased or have currently rented from Amazon are now available on your Xbox 360.
Unfortunately, at this time you have to be an Xbox LIVE Gold Subscriber and Amazon Prime Members to have unlimited access to Prime Instant Video Library.
But, even when you add up the costs and compare to your current cable costs, it is a SIGNIFICANT savings.
- Xbox Live Gold Membership for 12 months (this allows you instant streaming of ESPN channels + more) – $49.32
- Amazon Prime Membership for 12 months (and you get Kindle Lending Library and FREE 2-Day shipping regardless of order size) – $79.00
- Netflix Instant Streaming Video for 11 months (because one month is FREE) – $87.89
That’s $18.00 per month for sports, news, movies, kids shows, and all the extras.
Compare that to your current cable bill – I guarantee you are saving at least 70% off your current bill.
It’s time to ditch cable.

So are you telling me my husband can get ESPN through this route? And what about live sports? That is the one reason we still have to get cable, and I hate paying the bill!
Does this only work with XBox or can it work with a Roku, too?
Kelly says
At this time Xbox 360 and PS3 are the only ones I know that offer the ESPN option. And yes, it is live sports. It is live streaming.
Mindy says
This definitely worth looking into! Thanks, Kelly!
Mindy says
One other thought….would I have to have a machine for every TV in order to get streaming?
Kelly says
Yes. You have to have a player on every TV. Most houses have the large player (Xbox) on their best TV and then have less expensive players (Roku) on other TVs.
Mindy says
Alright…that’s what I was thinking as I was typing, but I just wanted to check. do you have the ESPN feature? And, do get all other major networks that have live sports? NBC, CBS, etc. Sorry for the questions…I have to have my research done before I present the facts to the sports fanatic! 🙂
Kelly says
Mindy – All network channels you can get through a digital antenna. Xbox Gold is for ESPN only.
Mindy says
Thanks for your time, Kelly!
Kat says
How is the streaming? We have done streaming off the internet and it sometimes is broken and my husband misses the good plays. Does the Xbox 360 streaming more consistent or kind of broken?
Kelly says
Kat – Streaming is only as good as your router and internet connection. If you are having problems on your laptop, I would say you made need to look into increasing your bandwidth. We run EVERYTHING wireless in our house and because of that we have the highest speed internet we can afford. It is one of those tradeoffs…you get rid of an $80 cable bill, but you should invest another $15 in having better internet speed. This isn’t so much of an issue with Netflix or Amazon Prime (because it buffers) – but is for live action stuff.
Mindy says
Do you recommend XBox or PS3? I believe you have a Roku from following the blog, but I can’t remember if you have the XBox or PS3.
Kelly says
We don’t have either. I just do a lot of research, LOL. I think you should research each player and see which one will fit your needs better. Both have amazing features.
Mindy says
Do you recommend XBox or PS3? I think you recommend Roku as I have seen that on the blog.
Mindy says
Didn’t see my question so I typed it again. Sorry! Now I see the original. Argh with myself!
