Thirsty Thursday is the quest to drink good, cheap wine that is $10.00 and under. Want some more recommendations? Check out the past cheap wine posts on Thirsty Thursday.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Heard that before? Like from your Grandpa, Dad, Uncle, or Social Studies Teacher.
I’ll be honest, I feel that way about wineries. If I find a couple that I like, I tend to go back to them again and again, year after year.
Usually, I like the winemaker’s style or their ability to either grow or choose great grapes for wine. And while I could continue with some fancy frou-frou talk about yields or oak barrels or who studied under who, in the end it comes down to… “I always like the way the wine tastes.”
One my steady-eddies is the Two Vines Series by Columbia Crest from Washington State. I wrote about the 2007 Two Vines Vineyard 10 Red Wine last year and this year I’m recommending the 2008 Two Vines Vineyard 10 Red Wine.
And this is what I love about wine. These two wines are named the same thing, come from the same winery, are only one year apart – but taste drastically different.
The 2008 Two Vines Vineyard 10 Red Wine is a combination of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Grenache, and Mouvedre grapes. While this wine is still fruit-forward with aromas of berry and spice, the addition of the Cabernet Franc makes it a more robust and full-bodied wine than it’s predecessor. It still has all the drink-ability of the 2007 – it is just more grown up. Luckily the price didn’t grow up, ’cause it is still under $7.99 per bottle.
This wine would pair well with BBQ, a big burger, a cheesy chicken dish, or with nothing but your significant other on Valentine’s Eve after the kiddos are put to bed.
Cause if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Note: This wine should be available at most liquor outlets. Please be responsible when you drink wine – and never drive drunk…seriously, that is just stupid in this day in age.
