Follow me as I chronicle my shopping adventures in an effort to spend $300 per month on groceries, health/beauty and cleaning products in Success Stories.
I didn’t do much shopping this week.
Frankly, we really didn’t need anything. (And if truth be told, I was feeling lazy because it has been so stinkin’ hot here and I didn’t want to have to take the kiddos with me when it was so warm.)
But today, I had to go to Hen House to pick up my CSA, so I went ahead and picked up a few of their sale items too.
Pictured: (2) Charmin Bathroom Tissue, (7) Honey Nut Cheerios, (2) Golden Graham Bars, and (3) Betty Crocker Cookie Mixes.
Total: $23.53
I’ve decided that God has a sense of humor, because after last week’s lament about not finding toilet paper for a decent price, Hen House had a great deal on Charmin.
I had two $1/1 Charmin coupons that I received in the mail, so they were $4.98 each and that’s a pretty great price for a toilet paper that is on Hubs “okay-to-buy” list. So now we have toilet paper for the next six months. When it rains, right?
Also, my kiddos have declared mutiny and now will only eat four kinds of cereal – one of those being Honey Nut Cheerios. With the $1/2 General Mills Printable Coupon – they ended up being $.98 a box.
And I had received some special coupons from Betty Crocker for their cookie mix, so after $1/1 Cookie Mix coupons – they were $.88 each. And the Golden Graham bars will be used in school lunches and after $.50/1 Golden Grahams Bar Printable Coupon – there were $1.00 each.
I normally don’t buy this many processed goodies in one trip, but Hen House was doing a promotion when you bought 12 or more items in one shopping trip your school would receive 100 extra Box Tops for Education. It was a win-win for me. Good prices on stockpile items and extra cash for DS school.
I do plan on taking advantage of some of the great deals at Hy-Vee and Target next week. And being able to bank a little this week will help offset the higher purchases next week.
What about you? How was your shopping this week? Are you staying on budget? Let us know in the comments or send me a picture and I’ll post it.

I had a fabulous week! I was able to get a ton of freebies and ridiculously cheap items. I spent $1.19 at HyVee for over $18 worth of groceries. The girl behind me even commented on how impressive it was 🙂 I still have to hit Hen House, but I only have about $4 – $5 worth of stuff to pick up. I took a picture of my freebies, but I still can’t figure out how to include it in my comment. Love hearing your weekly stories Kelley!

Heather – please send a picture like you did before. I love seeing what other people are getting because it gives me ideas too.
My list for Hy-Vee is pretty long. I plan on making the trip either today or tomorrow. Getting all that milk and cereal for basically free is hard to pass up. 🙂

Don’t feel bad. I’m also baffled by toilet paper. 🙂
Did you get your Red Plum insert this Sunday or are we switching to mailed inserts? I went through my paper twice and it’s nowhere to be found.
Kelly says
Cristina – I got three inserts. RedPlum, SmartSource, and General Mills.
