This week we are de-cluttering the Master Bathroom.
Now, if the spare bathroom housed my collection of fingernail polishes, the Master Bathroom houses all of my “other” beauty products…hair care, moisturizers, makeup, etc.
I have two spaces that I house my collection supplies – an over-the-toliet cabinet and my vanity.
Because I knew that tackling them both would be way.too.hard…I just focused on the over-the-toliet cabinet.
Here is a look at EVERYthing (minus bathroom tissue, one pack of Band-Aids, and tampons/liners/pads – because really who wants to see those things).
Look familiar to this picture.
Paging DR. FLYNN.
One of the downsides (or upsides, depending on how you look at it) of couponing/strategic shopping is that you can get a LOT of FREE or nearly FREE beauty products, samples, and trial sizes of about anything. And when you are a blogger, you can multiply that number by two or three, because companies want you to try stuff out so you’ll blog about it.
I’m not trying to justify my problem (remember, admitting your addiction is the first step to recovery), but if left unchecked, you end up with two floors worth of beauty products from two bathrooms.
So I went through every item and asked myself these questions…
1. Is it my color?
2. Is this the only one I have of {insert beauty product name}?
3. Will I use this in the next six months?
4. Do I even know what this does?
If the answer was NO to any of those questions, I either threw it away or put it in the pile going to Safehouse. (I only gave unopened items to Safehouse.)
And I ended up getting rid of the following (18 items)…
What did I learn…
- I don’t care what kind of mood I’m in, I’m never wearing zebra nail strips. Seriously? Have you met me? I’d never wear those unless I was pretending to be Sheena of the Jungle for Halloween.
- Quit signing up for FREE samples that I will never use. Someone else will use it. Let them sign up and take advantage of it.
- Attempt to say NO when companies offer to send you FREE product. I’ll be honest. The chance of this happening 100% is about ZERO. I love trying new products, but in the future, I’ll try to give product away immediately if I don’t care for it.
So how did you do? What things did you let go this week? What are you doing with all of your unwanted items?
The 365 Day Challenge is getting rid of one item per day over the next year to declutter your house and your life. You can see all past posts on the 365 Days | 365 Items Challenge.
