In every coupon class I teach, I discuss additional ways to get coupons.
One of those ways is to purchase coupons books from our local grocery stores from kiddos that are selling them as a fundraiser.
While this sounds easy in theory (cause they’ll just come to my door and ask me if I want to buy one), the truth is you have to “know” someone, in order to get your hands on one of these books.
Luckily, I know someone.
Kansas City Mamas purchased (8) Hy-Vee Funraising Coupon Books in order to give them away to (8) lucky readers.
And the Hy-Vee ones are my favorite because every coupon is a STORE coupons, which means you can stack them with a manufacturer coupon for greater savings.
(Disclaimer: My son was selling them. I know that many of your kiddos sell them too. But just like I didn’t ask you to buy my kid’s coupon book, please don’t send me an email asking me to buy your kid’s coupon book.)
Here’s How To Enter The Giveaway
(Remember, each comment is considered a entry – so leave a separate comment each time.)
Leave me a comment and tell me your least favorite kid’s fundraiser. (Ex. Cookie Dough – WHY???)
Additional entry: Become a email subscriber to Kansas City Mamas. (I promise, I won’t spam you.) And then leave a comment and let me know.
Additional entry: Become in Like with Kansas City Mamas on Facebook. (We have fun, I promise.) And then leave a comment and let me know.
Contest will be open till end of day on May 30, 2012. Winners will be notified by email and have 48-hours to respond before another winner is chosen. Good Luck.
Disclosure: Kansas City Mamas purchased the coupons books that are being given away. The written remarks are entirely my own. Want more information – check out my full disclosure statement.

I hate them selling magazines!
I get your daily email.
I don’t like the magazines either people don’t like to buy them.
I “like” you on FB
I love your posts!
I do not like it when kids raise funds by selling home decor items from catalogues. Those things never seem to match my decor… Really, I don’t know anyone whose decor they would go with.
And I subscribed for email updates.
I love buying Girl Scout Cookies, but as a former Girl Scout it was terrible once the cookies came in and I had to organize them and get them to houses. Our troops goal was always a 1000 boxes per Girl Scout. Yikes!
…And I like you on FB!
My kid’s are still little but I really didn’t care for the popcorn fundraiser by the boyscouts. How much popcorn can a family really eat? And wow, not looking forward to future magazine sales.
I like you on fb. I could really use this giveaway, my wallet was stolen 2 weeks ago and haven’t fully recovered from the loss.
Don’t like wrapping paper! Nobody wants it!
I also like you on fb
I do not like the cookie dough fundraiser…the cookies are not very good!
I hate the wrapping paper/gift catalogs! Everything is crazy expensive and unnecessary! I’d rather support them and get something I actually could use.
I also “like” Kansas City Mamas on Facebook!

Cookie dough is seriously the worst! Expensive and really fattening! 😉
My least favorite fundraiser is for magazines because after reading your blog I KNOW how much I should pay for a magazine subscription. I would rather send a donation directly to the school than be robbed on a magazine subscription where maybe 50% of my purchase goes to teh school.
I like lollipops. They are tasty. They are usually 3.00. I don’t care if thats expensive because I like sugar.
How much are the coupon books? Where can I get one? No kids.
I hate the magazine fundraisers, too, but because we have to fill out the little coupon book then call or email everyone to say don’t worry if you don’t buy a magazine…we already got the little bracelet or whatever for filling out the book!!!! Drives me nuts!!!!
I already get your emails.
I already like you on FB. Thanks!!!!!
I also hate to admit this, but I was like the best fundraiser ever at my school. I am pretty goal oriented and could sell stuff door to door. Now folks are crazy and I would never ever sell anything door to door. I also would like to mention that even back in the stone ages, my parents were dead set against all this fundraiser stuff. My mom did all that stuff (girl scout cookie mom, PTA christmas fund raiser, and others) and didn’t care for it one bit. By the time I was in highschool, we had this bit down pretty good and could get it over with pretty quickly—mainly by selling out in front of walmart. I learned how to be aggressive and fearless-especially with cheap items. My mom didn’t want me to sell in highschool and she would have preferred to just pay out of pocket and make a “donation/extortion” but the school wouldn’t allow it. So we had to do these fundraisers. After a while I got a job (at age 16) and decided this was stupid. I just wouldn’t participate. I would donate my money (with my paycheck) and pretend I was buying pizzas but never pick those horrible red wheel things up. After a while, I just stopped participating in activities that made me sell stuff. I decided that my senior year would be fundraiser free. I decided many many years ago, that I would never ever let my kids do that and just keep them home and not make them sell stuff. Spouses work doesn’t do that fundraising stuff and will write you up for trying. I also don’t want to say this and sound mean, but I have been alive a while and noticed that the kids who had parents who put their foot down and just donated the money turned out the same as the kids who had to sell. I mean talk about segregation of students due to social status and wealth! It has always been a horrible self-esteem crushing experience for the kids and parents. I also didn’t do the car washes because that seemed creepy too. I mean kids in bathing suits waving signs on street corners. No.
Magazine or candy bar sales. Too expensive.
Liked and signed up for email !
least favorite fundraiser was selling the ‘coupon card’ to local resturants .
those were a hard sale.
Favorite fundraiser was the HV coupon books! those sold easy and they were good ones to have on hand!
I hate the discount cards for Fast Food. First of all I am on a budget so we don’t eat out, even with a discount and second of all it’s never for restaurants I like! Als I have subscribed to e-mail updates and Facebook!
least favorite fundraiser: magazines. Everyone sells magazines….

Least favourite school fundraiser was… trash bags! I always thought selling those was incredibly odd.
least favorite school fundraiser was trying to sell a discount card that had 10 local business/restaurants on it. Well for one not everyone we know goes to these business/restaurants on the card,so not a great fundraiser.
I am an e-mail subscriber. 🙂
I like Kansas City Mamas on Facebook. 🙂
I dislike most fundraisers; but at least with the boy scout ones whatever they sell they get a profit that can be used for their uniform or can be used to pay for scout camp.
Hate, hate, HATE the wrapping paper at Christmas time. See also: cleaning supplies, candy, pizza, and almost anything else except Girl Scout cookies.
I am already subscribed to you. Does that count?
AND…I liked you on FB already. ‘Cause I’m just that kind of gal…
The local fort osage discount cards are my least favorite, no family members or anyone at my job will buy one because its only good for the fort osage area, not kc metro wide
I am an email subscriber. thanks!
I’ve liked your facebook page
I really hate the wrapping paper fundraiser.

Magazine sales are my least favorite fundraiser. I could buy myself THREE subscriptions and make a larger donation to the school through couponing than I could buying 1 magazine from school.

My least favorite fund raiser is the Pizza fund raiser. I do not like the taste and they are way over priced. Unfortuately I have a golden rule when it comes to kids and fund raisers. If they make the effort to knock at my door (as apposed to sending the sheet to work with their parents) I will buy something from them.
trash bags>!? who sells (or buys) trash bags?!
🙂 Thanks for the chance! I love coupons…
ha ha ! I said the same thing! Isn’t that the truth! Who buys trash bags! They are sooooo very over priced!

It’s a toss up between cookie dough and the snack mixes–it’s the smallest little bag for $6.50. Seriously!!! Where is the deal in that?

Cookie Dough!

I hate to see the cookie dough brochures. We always end up with a couple of tubs in the freezer:(
My least favorite would be popcorn…because I’m not a popcorn eater.

Coupons for fast food places–because my kids and I cannot eat anything there–and the OOP is high. I think the neighbor’s baseball team one was $18 or something crazy! But we did buy it.
I am an email subscriber, thanks!
My least favorite kid’s fundraiser is the restaurant discount card. We never end up using it, since eating out isn’t an option for us.
I am an email subscriber to Kansas City Mamas.
I like Kansas City Mamas on Facebook.
we “buy-out” of our summer baseball/softball program because I HATE the idea of selling anything, in this case either cookie dough or candy bars.
I’m a FB Fan!!
My kids are too little to have to worry about the fundraisers yet. I’m not looking forward to it. I know when I was a kid candy bars and trash bags were the worst.

Trash bags! I know they can be used, but how boring!
Gift Wrap and Candle fund raisers, I bought a candle from a kid for $12 and it was barely bigger than a votive candle and smelled awful! I’d rather just give them the money for the cause!
Major saver cards, 10 deals, 10 punches – but only 1 deal that’s good. Dislike!
I get Kansas city mama’s in my Facebook news feed.
I am on your email list!
I am in like with KCM on Facebook.
I know that fundraisers are not about the product, but I have always found the weird frozen food ones scary, and the poor Boy Scouts, selling microwave popcorn!
Major Saver Cards….ughhhh….have bought one 4 years running and never used it once.
Gift wrapping sales, it is so expensive, why would people buy it? You can get great bargains in the clearance sections!
Ya–I don’t like those cookie dough fund raisers. Seriously? It’s robbery!

i love to coupon and am always dissapointed our area doesnt get some of the great coupons. whats up with that?
I hate cookie dough as well!m
Quite honestly I dislike almost all fundraisers. I hate it when my kids come home and think they need to sell x of something so they can get some crap that they could buy at the Dollar store for a lot less than the work they put in to sell stuff. I would rather donate what the school, etc would get for their percentage then buy something from the 3rd part company. But I think the worst is the cookie dough! Seriously, it was $13 this year for $1 worth of ingredients!
Merchandise Sales(Calendars, paper, etc)- Difficult to sell versus food sales.

My least favorite fundraiser is the various catalogs with the cheaply made products that are grossly over priced. I prefer fundraisers like the coupon books, you really get something out of it.
I like (love) you on Facebook!
I’m not fond of the popcorn sales, but the trash bags sound even worse!
I hate all of the merchandise fundraisers. The pictures always show these nicely sized items and you get them and they’re all the size of a golf ball. Argh. =/

Personally I can’t stand all of them! It’s really annoying that we have to buy the wayyy over priced wrapping paper where I am getting 5 inches for like $20!!
My least favorite fundraiser is the wrapping paper and “christmasy type things”, can’t think of the name of the company right now.

I don’t have any kids but I did sell stuff when I was younger and I hated selling stuff door to door because I felt like I was begging people for money. Girl Scout cookies seem to sell pretty easy though.
My least favorite fundrasier are those punch cards for bogo or free appetizers at restaurants. I always forget I have them or they aren’t to restaurants that I frequent.

My least favorite fund raiser was the candy bars because I always ate too many 🙂
Cookie dough…expensive! (Homemade are MUCH better!!!!)
Catalogs that sell worthless junk for way too much money! I always feel bad not buying anything but it’s hard to pick junk from junk!
Cookie dough – often it would be delivered to me at the most unopportune times – -where I couldn’t refridgerate, and would often have to eat in 1 sitting – without baking.
The magazine subscriptions ~ they’re so expensive!
