I have received many emails for concerned KCM readers about donating items for Joplin Relief.
So many of you have been awesome about posting different collection sites on the KCM Facebook Page – and please keep those coming.
But I also wanted to provide you another opportunity. This one is from my church – United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.

I don’t say this because it is my church, but it is honestly SO EASY to donate at Church of the Resurrection. As soon as you walk into the doors of the West Building, there will be wire racks where you can place your items. It’s as easy as walking in and walking back out.

I think that with it being Memorial Day, many people were out of town so a lot of these items were not donated over the weekend. It would be great if people could bring items by this week (building is closed today). After all, if you’ve been couponing for any length of time, you MUST have extra tubes of toothpaste. 🙂
Thanks for posting this!!

Did you know that what is most needed right now is monetary donations. It’s so great that everyone is so willing to help out and to see that so many people care. Unfortunately, warehouses are being overcrowded, valuable time and resources are being used up just trying to find a place to put all this stuff. It’s too much, too soon. Relief needs to be organized and in the overwhelming urge to help, it is actually causing more problems. It’s creating chaos. It’s great. I understand why everyone is doing it, but it needs to be highly organized, and this is not. There was a letter read at church yesterday regarding this, it was from a government agency (I can’t remember which it is, but they are official) and it made sense. The letter was urging us to donate money at this time, and that the time would come when we would be asked to help in an appropriate manner – like when they need clean up and rebuilding. I urge you to be careful about how you choose to help. It was suggested that if we really want to help, to contact the Red Cross.

I told Nick this as well, but I just love the Joy Buckets for Children project! I can’t wait to take my boys to a store this week to pick up buckets to donate.

Both the personal health care kits and the childrens kits are things they are requesting. Convoy of Hope posted they were taking donations of coloring books, etc for the children.
May you find many to donate for those in need.

Erin’s comments are right on target for a lot of what is happening. The beautiful overflow of people’s donations taken directly to Joplin have, in many situations, caused chaos when emergency workers are trying to focus on finding the lost and helping the injured. I do want to assure you all, however, that the list of supplies Kelly mentioned above are very carefully being coordinated Church of the Resurrection at the specific request of the front-line relief agencies of The Red Cross, Convoy of Hope and the Salvation Army. They will be delivered in an organized manner when the agencies are ready for them. Cash donations are always most helpful for agencies–but if you are heading to the stockpile to bless others, know that these things will be greatly appreciated!!

Great idea on the joy buckets for Children!
Jaydin says
Will they except any other items not on the list? I got some razors, toothpaste, and deodorant but I also got painty liners, pine-sol, and some other misc things that are not on their list…
Bugmagnt says
My question goes along with Jaydin — I also have some first aid travel kits and bandaids.. and well as some smaller packs of kleenex. Needed?
Kelly says
Bug – they will accept all those items. But know that the items they have requested are specific for “personal care kits” that the church is providing. So your Kleenex and band-aids will go a great agency that needs it – it just might not got to Joplin. Does that make sense?
