The purpose of What’s For Dinner? is to provide you a recipe with items on sale this week, with no more than 10 ingredients (not including pantry items), and coming in at under $10 per meal.
BLT.
Bacon. Lettuce. Tomato.
It seems like such a simple little sandwich.
Tried and true.
Amazing with fresh tomato out of the garden.
Or basil.
Yes, I said basil.
We had fresh tomatoes and basil in our CSA from Hen House a couple of weeks ago. So Hubs and I fried up some bacon and made “Grown-Up” BLTs. But for fun, I threw on some fresh basil on my sandwich.
HOLY COW!
Why hadn’t I done this sooner? It was out of this world.
Hence the name and me sharing – the “Out-of-This World” Grown-Up BLT.
“Out-of-This World” Grown-Up BLT
Good Bread (don’t skimp and use Wonder Bread)
Bacon (Use three strips per sandwich)
Fresh Tomato, preferably from your garden or CSA
Onion, diced
Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
Miracle Whip
Iceberg Lettuce
Fresh Basil
Directions
1. Fry bacon. Set aside.
2. Toast bread.
3. Spread a healthy amount of Miracle Whip on both pieces of toasted bread. Sprinkle diced onion and shredded cheese on one side. Assemble basil, bacon, tomato, and lettuce on the other side.
4. Place two ends together and cut crosswise.
5. Marvel at the awesomness of basil.
Want to make it even more grown up? Add avocado.
