The purpose of What’s For Dinner? is to provide you a recipe with items on sale this week, with no more than 10 ingredients (not including pantry items), and coming in at under $10 per meal.
WARNING: If you are a vegetarian or super-health conscious – skip this post. This recipe DOES NOT come close to either category. However, if you appreciate a little stick-to-your-bones yumminess – read on.
Everything to make an amazing breakfast is on sale this week – Eggs are part of the Hy-Vee Deals and Biscuits, Sausage, and Orange Juice are part of the Price Chopper Deals.
I love biscuits and gravy. I worked for King’s Restaurant in high school – Home of the Famous Cheese Frenchie – and they had the BEST breakfasts. My personal favorite – Biscuits and Gravy. (Especially after an eventful Friday night, but that is another story.)
Hubs and I tried for years to replicate the King’s Restaurant Gravy and we failed miserably for 10 years. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago (and letting go the idea of a healthy version) that we finally found the right recipe. And it is so simple, I almost feel a little dense that I didn’t figure it out before.
So grab the ingredients (Pillsbury Biscuits will do) and enjoy a down-home-stick-to-ribs-don’t-try-to-figure-out-the-calories breakfast.
Super Sausage Gravy
1 pound sausage roll
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups of milk (The higher fat count, the better. And really, with this recipe those extra calories really don’t make a difference.)
Salt and pepper to taste
8 prepared biscuits
Directions
1. Crumble and cook sausage over med high heat until browned.
2. DO NOT DRAIN, but stir in flour until dissolved.
3. Gradually stir in milk.
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Serve over prepared biscuits.
PS – Go for the gusto and sprinkle shredded cheddar on biscuits before adding gravy. OH MY.

I LOVE biscuits and gravy. My mom owned a restaurant when I was growing up and she served them there. I have never been able to get the recipe right, but I am sure this one is very close to it! Thanks for posting!!
