It’s been a week.
There have been some really good moments and then there have bees some that have made me want to crawl under the covers with a bottle of wine and Bravo Real Housewives of New Jersey Marathon.
But the weekend is fast approaching.
And not any weekend – a LONG weekend that should include grilling a nice piece of cow over a charcoal grill.
If you plan on doing some of the same kind of grilling, you may want to pick up a bottle of the 2009 Leese-Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon.
This mostly Cab wine – 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah, 5% Tempranillo, 2% Alicante Bouchet, 2% Petite Sirah – has a beautiful ruby red color and a nose of cherries, coffee and a bit of cedar wood.
It is a very smooth Cab. Not too many tannins (that sandpaper feel), but enough to make it a great compliment to flank steak, london broil, or another marinated meat.
This balanced wine also has notes of blackberries, hazelnuts, and a bit earth. (Earth is a hard description, I know. It is like the combination of fresh dirt, green grass, and a woody glen. Things that you haven’t ever eaten, but have smelled all your life. Which is wine tasting wine is more about your nose and less about your tastebuds.)
My favorite part is the bit of acidity at the end. It’s a little pop that is like a party in your mouth.
There are very few Cabs that you will find in this range that have as much going on as this wine. It is an amazing food wine that pairs well with about anything and won’t break the bank if you decide THIS weekend is a two bottle weekend.
(Or you decide it is a two bottle night while in front of the TV watching how Teresa can’t get along with the rest of her family on RHNJ.)
