Capsules are the new thing!
There are wardrobe capsules, accessory capsules, and now…makeup capsules.
I’ve been using the concept of a “makeup capsule” for a long, long time. (I just called it a portable makeup station.) In a nutshell, the goal is to pare down your makeup to ten items or less and keep those separate from “all the rest of your makeup”. One tip in creating a makeup capsule is to find products than can do double or triple duty.
This capsule should then help reduce the time it takes to put on your makeup because you don’t have to “search for items” amongst everything else AND it limits your choices, also saving time.
And to be honest, the spring and summer is a perfect time to try out a makeup capsule! I usually pair down my makeup during this season anyway (because who wants to see a woman in FULL MAKEUP sweating it all off at a baseball game – yuck!).
So, here is a spring summer makeup capsule idea for you…and even better, everything can be found at your drugstore.
(Item of note: I didn’t not include my brushes, but I use the following brushes everyday to apply my makeup (foundation, blush, powder, and smudge brush.)
Spring Summer Makeup Capsule Idea – Drugstore Edition
1. Wet & Wild Lip Liner, Brandy Wine (666)
I’ve tried expensive lip liners and I keep coming back to this little gem for under $1.00. It’s a great color because you can shade your whole lip for a dramatic look, or just line the lips for definition.
2. Maybelline Eyebrow Pencils, Light Brown
Again, I’ve used more expensive pencils and I always come back to the original. I love that it is easy to blend, has great staying power, and comes in enough colors to make an easy match. Granted, it goes without saying that it doesn’t do any good to fill in your brows if you aren’t maintaining them.
3. Nuance by Salma Hayek Mineral Foundation Powder, Light
This is the best powder foundation I’ve ever used. It’s light, covers well, is a mineral base, and has great staying power, but washes off easily. (Available at CVS Pharmacy.)
Curling your eyelashes is an instant way to look more alert and make your lashes look longer and fuller. I cheated a little bit here, because I use a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, but you could easily find a more inexpensive one at a drugstore.
5. Cover Girl Lash Blast, Very Black
No other mascara elongates my lashes, makes them look fuller, and is SMUDGE PROOF…so I don’t look like a raccoon by the end of the day. In fact, I can not count the number of times people ask me if I’m wearing false eyelashes when in fact I’m just using Cover Girl Lash Blast.
6. Physicians Formula Bronzer, Malibu Strip
This is my capsule’s secret weapon. I use this strip as a eyeshadow, blush, and bronzer. Just pick a color, use the right brush and it does triple duty. Doesn’t get more simpler than that!
7. Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips
The color is perfect for the spring summer and the consistency means you will be keeping your pout protected under the harsh sun. Plus, because it is so tiny you can buy a second one and put it in your pocket when you need to reapply on-the-go.
8. Nuance by Salma Hayek Gel Eyeliner, Black
I’ve never found another eyeliner that can make a defined line or smudged for more relaxed look and STAY PUT ALL DAY LONG. No raccoon eyes or smudges that make you look like you put your eyeliner under the eyebrow. Once it is “fixed”, it stays put till you want to take it off. (Available at CVS Pharmacy.)
9. Nuance By Salma Hayek Concealer Stick, Fair
I don’t wear much concealer in the summer (unless somehow I get a raging pimple) but I do highlight different areas around my face to brighten it. And this concealer stick is perfect for both. One part highlighting stick and one part liquid concealer. Just follow it up with foundation powder and you are set for the day. (Available at CVS Pharmacy.)

Hi! Just wondering if you could confirm the bronzer you use. I just checked out the “Malibu strip” online and the colors look different than the ones shown in your picture. Could the one you show be Wiki strip instead? Any info you have would be great! We look to have the same hair and skin tone, so what works for you might work for me! BTW-is it slightly shimmery or over the top? I am hoping for slightly!!! 😉

Nancy – You are very observant! So I’ll tell you a secret, the bronzer in the picture is not the Malibu Strip. The store where I bought all the “new” makeup for the picture didn’t have the Malibu, so that is the Vegas color. With that being said, I 100% recommend the Malibu strip for people with fair/medium coloring (that why I linked to it). I have been using the Vegas pallet (since I already bought it) and it is also really good, it has more golden undertones vs the malibu with more pink in undertones. And it is just slightly shimmery…just use a light hand and you’ll have a sun kissed glow, not a Vegas showgirl glow.
