I LOVE These Things: Fitbit, Malibu Strip & The Breakfast Club {Week of March 29th}

I LOVE THESE THINGS

We just found out that our kids are going to be getting out a week early because we didn’t have any snow days this year. At first, I was SO EXCITED. We would get to quit making lunches, doing homework, and being responsible a week early. And then fear hit….oh. my. word….what are we going to do for ONE MORE WEEK.

Anyone else?

Here is what is making me happy this week…

FitBit Flex1. My Fitbit.

I got a Fitbit for Christmas.

On January 1st, I downloaded the iPhone app, put the band on my wrist and went about my day.

That lasted for seven days. Why only seven days, you may ask? Well, my Fitbit pissed me off.

It was winter. I was working out inside. And no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t reach the damn 10,000 steps per day.

I felt discouraged. So I abandoned my Fitbit into my jewelry box, erased the iPhone app and grabbed another handful of chocolate covered almonds and binged watched Big Love.

Fast forward to March. My nights of binge watching television and binge eating chocolate covered almonds had caught up with me and my waistline. Shorts were fitting a little snug and the thought of wearing a swimsuit was sending the fear of GOD into me…

I knew I needed an accountability partner if I was going to lose this extra “fluff” in my mid-section…so I drug out the Fitbit and starting wearing it again. And you know what? I actually liked the challenge this time. Granted, it is easier to get in an extra 1,000 steps by walking to the corner and back because it isn’t frigid outside. But I’ll do whatever it takes to get back into last year’s summer clothes.

(PS: Has anyone done the 100,000 step challenge? I’m thinking of doing one next week….let me know if you are interested and we can find each other on the app and track our progress.)

I’m pasty-white. I’m THAT GIRL who spends 32 minutes outside in the summertime and ends up with a horrible sunburn.

Unfortunately, I love looking tan. In my early 20s (when I didn’t care about skin care, cancer, and had an unlimited amount of extra time), I would spend my winters in a tanning bed to get a healthy glow that would transition to summer.

Now, I put on shorts and people put on sunglasses because they are blinded by the light. And while sunless tanning lotions and sprays work wonders for my legs…my face needs a little lift too.

My cheat. Physicians Formula Malibu Strip/Pink Sand Bronzer.

I’ve been using this bronzer for about ten years. It’s PERFECT at creating a simple natural glow on your face. (Think more day at the beach – less George Hamilton.)

I love it because it is covers great, blends easily, and is INEXPENSIVE and available everywhere.

If you’ve never worn bronzer before or if it scares the crap out of you because you don’t know how to apply it – just take at look at this bronzer tutorial. It is truly that easy. When I put it on, I just think…”Where would the sun hit my face naturally?” and that is where it goes. And make sure you purchase a bronzer brush…they make all the difference in the world.

3. The Breakfast Club 30th Anniversary.

(Yes, I said 30. And yes, this made me feel SUPER old.)

On Tuesday, I got to hang out with three special ladies and watch a movie on the “big screen” that was my soundtrack in junior high.

I wasn’t old enough to see The Breakfast Club in an actual theater, but luckily, I had parents who liked to dub VHS movies, so I had a VHS tape that I played non-stop for about three years. At one point, I knew every line, every facial expression, and every swear word. I was convinced that Claire and John would stay together through high school, but Allison and Andy would break up.

Watching it on Tuesday night, I was struct by the following things…

And in case you missed it, here are the new posts for the week.
