We recently remodeled our kitchen.
After spending almost 20 years with formica countertops, we made the decision to go with a solid surface countertop.
But have you looked at all the options for countertops now-a-days? There are like a bazillion….quartz, granite, soapstone, marble, and then all the man-made surfaces like corian or cambria.
In the end, we wanted all of the low-maintenance and durability of man-made (aka indestructible) with the look for stone, so we chose Caesarstone Countertops.
I was in love. They looked exactly like Quartz (because they were quartz) but they could handle the beating they would receive from me and my cooking husband.
There was just one problem (which I didn’t realize until after they were installed), my favorite Homemade All-Purpose Cleaning Solution was a no-no on these countertops because it contained vinegar. Evidently, vinegar can ruin stone countertops because it can break down the finish and erode the stone. Who knew?
They advised using a heavy-chemical cleaning product or magic erasers (if stains really didn’t come up). Since we try to be very natural in our cleaning supplies, the thought of using a super-chemically smelly product didn’t appeal to me. Ugh, I had no idea how to clean caesarstone countertops!
I asked about using Dawn instead of the heavy-chemical product and the installer said give it a shot. It wouldn’t hurt the countertops, but he wasn’t sure if it would clean as well as heavy-chemical product.
Well, Mr. Countertop Installer Dude, let me tell you, Dawn works awesome!
I’ve been using Dawn as an all-purpose cleaning product for years (it’s one of the ways I clean my bathroom). I’ve tried other brands of dishwashing liquid and NOTHING comes close to Dawn’s ability to cut away grease and grime on every surface.
How To Clean Caesarstone Countertops
Depending on how big of a job I’m doing, I’ll either…
- Squirt Dawn directly on my sponge/dish cloth under warm running water.
- Make a squirt bottle of warm water and two or three drops of Dawn.
- Make a big.ole.sink.full of Dawn and hot water.
And then scrub the surface with Dawn and water and dry with a microfiber towel or paper towel and it always comes away squeaky clean. (Yes, I’m one of those people who needs the squeak factor for her countertops.)
In fact, Dawn has a whole bunch of ways it can be used than just in the sink! Just check out their Dawn Beyond The Sink Ideas Page.
