Baby, it’s cold outside, so you better make a cute sweater for your little puppy dog. No, you don’t need to know how to knit and you don’t need to buy a loom. All you need is an old sweater. If you don’t have an old sweater then borrow one from your hubby, you know, the one with the holes in it that he refuses to get rid of since college? If he’s not letting you have that one, then go buy a cheap, used one at your local thrift store. Now, to make this sweater, your dog needs to be small. My dog, Gigi, is about 8 pounds and about 12-14 inches long in the body. Perfect size for this easy sweater. Also, when choosing a sweater, make sure it is not too itchy. I picked out an old cotton sweater. It will be easy to throw into the wash when needed. Let’s get started!
DIY Small Dog Sweater
What you will need:
- Old sweater (just the sleeve really)
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Cute, small dog
Instructions:
- Lay your sweater on a table. Cut one arm off the sweater. This will be your sweater. Save the rest of your sweater for some other project (like another dog sweater when your dog eats this one).
- Measure how long you want the sweater on your dog. Cut the sweater arm that length, but at an angle (longer on top of dog, shorter under the dog to not cover private doggie parts).
- Cut holes for your dogs front legs. Guesstimate. I wanted Gigi’s sweater to be a turtle neck, so I left enough room on the end that goes over her head to fold down (the cuff of the sweater arm).
- Try your sweater on your dog. Adjust here and there (only cutting the sweater when not on your dog). When finished, let your dog strut around why you try to get a decent picture to post on Instagram. Good luck. Getting a good picture is the hardest part!
