Last week my hubby called up from the kitchen,
“Honey! Where is our cooking spray?”
“Its upstairs on our bathroom counter.” I replied.
“Ummm, and why is our cooking spray on our bathroom counter?”
“Well, let me explain…”
Whenever I paint my toe nails at home I use a fast-drying nail polish spray that costs around $10.50 for a tiny bottle. This spray is great, but it doesn’t take too many pedicures before the bottle is gone.
The other day I discovered I was out of my expensive, tiny-bottled spray. Deciding there had to be a better alternative, I looked on Pinterest to see if there were any DIY spray recipes I could make.
Low and behold, I was led to elle.com where I discovered that my fast-drying nail polish spray has been in my kitchen cabinet all along!

That bottle that costs around $2.30, does essentially the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
Below are my tips and tricks for using your DIY Fast-Drying Nail Polish Spray. Now realize, this spray doesn’t instantly dry your nails, but it really does cut down on the dry-time (7-12 minutes).
DIY Fast-Drying Nail Polish Spray
What you will need:
- Cooking spray
- Towel
- Tissues
- Freshly painted nails
- Patience
Instructions:
- Lay your towel out to cover whatever surface you are using to paint your nails.
- Starting with one hand or foot, paint your nails.
- Once you have one coat on lay your fingers or toes on the towel and spray your nails with your cooking spray. Make sure you hold the cooking spray at least 12 inches away from your foot.
- It can be messy, so use tissues to clean-up around your toes. Once your nails are dry (7-12 minutes) you can lightly blot your nails to get any extra oil off.
- Repeat on your other hand or foot.
- Continue with a second coat of paint then spray until you are satisfied with your color, waiting 7-12 minutes between coats.
This is not a perfect method and results may vary, but if you need something in a pinch or you are pinching pennies, using cooking spray to dry your nails is a great option. Can you believe it? What a great DIY Fast-Drying Nail Polish Spray.
