I love to entertain.
Seriously…love the entertain.
Part of why I love it is because I avoid holiday party stress and I follow all of my rules for entertaining with less stress.
So when ALDI asked me if I would be willing to accept the challenge of throwing a Holiday Party for 10 people for $100.00…I picked up the gauntlet.
I’ve believed for a long time that ALDI is a great place to shop and I have a list of the things to buy at ALDI, but I have never served exclusively ALDI items at one of my gatherings. So I was looking forward to trying a few new things, getting creative on some old things, and enjoying a great evening with friends.
So here are the details:
The Party
I decided to have Friday Afternoon Club Party from 4 – 7 pm. People were encouraged to come and go as they needed…stay for 15 minutes or stay for three hours. In addition, I allowed everyone’s kiddos to come, so no one had to worry about a sitter.
The Food
I chose to have a wine, cheese, appetizer and dessert party.
The Menu
I had seven cheeses, two hummus, pita chips, multiple kinds of crackers, a Caramelized Onion Tart with Swiss & Bacon, Party Poppers, Chocolate Pecan Pie Shooters, mini-cheesecakes, dark chocolate squares, and profiteros.
The Drinks
In addition to having water, I served Diamonte Malbec, Sunshine Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Willa Malizia Pinot Grigio, Landshut Riesling, Burlwood Merlot, Chianti, Brut Sparkling Wine, and Prosecco Sparkling Wine.
The Conclusion
I was spent too much. I was over $4.00. (See below)
However, the party was a success.
These were the most common comments:
- “That wine is from ALDI?”
- “You did ALL of this for $100.00.”
- “Oh. My. Word….these Chocolate Pecan Pie Shooters are amazing!”
- “I love cheese. And crackers.”
- “This hummus is awesome.”
- “Yes, you can have another piece of dark chocolate.”
It was a great night.
The adults had a great time. (Most people didn’t leave after 15 minutes…but stayed for the whole three hours.) The kids got along AMAZING well…in fact there were a couple of impromptu sleepovers because they didn’t want the fun to end. We learned new things about each other…like someone has an amazing singing voice and can do a killer rendition of Elton John’s “Saturday Night Is All Right” .
It was everything I wanted it to be and everything I needed it to be.
I broke bread with people I care about, drank a couple of glasses of wine, laughed till my sides hurt, and got hugs from little ones because “this is the best house ever.”
I’d say it was $100 that was really well spent.

Hi Kelly,
Does Aldi sell wine on the Kansas side?
I go in there all the time, and did not notice that, if so.
Sounds like it was a huge success!
Kelly says
Kelly – Unfortunately, only in Missouri. But it only takes me 15 minutes to get to the nearest location via 435 and 470.
Shaleena says
I’m going to have to make a trip to the Missouri side for some wine! How was the quality of the wine?
Kelly says
I loved the Sunshine Bay Sauvignon Blanc and the Prosecco .
Shaleena says
Thanks! Love a good Sauvignon blanc!!

I’m still thinking about the Malbec that I had two glasses of! It was SO good I’m planning a trip to Missouri so I can stock up. Every cheese that I tried was tasty (and I tried them all, I’m sure) but my favorite was the bacon/caramelized onion tart. My daughter fell head over heels in love with the poppers and has asked me three times to make them at home. I’ve never shopped at Aldi before but now I can’t wait to go.

The Aldi event was amazing! Great food, wine and company! I will turn to Aldi for all my party planning in the future. Why spend a fortune when you can just let people think you did?
Kristen says
I still can’t get over the quality of food and wine on that budget. In fact, I was at a wine tasting party the next night and guarantee that Malbec would have taken home a top prize if I would have brought it. It was so good.
Thanks so much for hosting, Kelly. It was an absolutely perfect evening!
Thanks to Aldi as well for all the goodies!

Holy Moly! Thank you so much for hosting Kelly! I was the “real food” friend quoted for allowing her daughter “another piece of dark chocolate”. So excited to see that Aldi offers some healthier options! All of the food was top notch and I LOVED trying all of the unique cheese that Aldi offers! The Sav Blanc was also a win-win. You were a great hostess!

We had such a great time at your house, I’m still baffled at how well all of those kiddos got along!!
My kids can’t stop asking me to make the poppers … so I guess they are on the list! I am also dumbfounded that the hummus was that inexpensive. We eat hummus ALL the time…totally going on my “Aldi List” …that list just keeps growing!
I, too wish that Kansas Aldi would sell wine…but alas. I’m also hoping to find some of those cheeses here…our store is not always well stocked …I may just have to make a trip to KC 🙂
Thank you again…it was such a nice evening!

We buy EVERYTHING at Aldi, including our French Red wine and Spanish cheeses.
