It sounds strange, but coloring is a huge stress reliever. There is something magical about letting your brain rest, grabbing a marker, color pencil, or gel pen and just coloring. No one cares about the outcome. It isn’t goal related. It’s just being, breathing, and listening. It’s nice.

I use my standard Crayola Markers (in fact these Super Tips, 50 Count are a great price for all the colors you get). My daughter uses these LolliZ Gel Pens (they are the BOMB of gel pens and come is amazing-sauce colors). Or you can get fancy and break out the PrismaColor Pencils.
