Sporty Mom Fashion could also be called “weekend fashion for mom, workout fashion for mom, or stay-at-home mom fashion”… call it what you want…you get the picture.
Regardless, sporty mom fashion usually is thought to be this uniform…yoga pants or leggins, athletic shirt, zip-up hoodie and tennis shoes. And while this outfit is okay, you can end up feeling like a shulpa-dink this same uniform gets worn day-in and day-out.
So here are some alternatives for sporty mom fashion…which means you will always look your best in the pick-up line, Costco, Starbucks, or at the bank.
Best Sporty Mom Fashion Ideas
Cargo Capris
I’m going to tell you a secret…the key to having cute sporty pants is POCKETS. No joke. For some reason, any pant with a pocket elevates it from “lowly workout gear” to “casual pant”. And before you go all “My Grandmother wears capris.” on me…take a look at those awesome cargo capri pants above…Grandma wouldn’t wear them or those sandals. #justsayin
Embrace The Dress
Over the last five years we’ve see the dress evolve from business meetings, weddings, funerals, and black tie to everyday. There are many options for sporty dresses but my favorites are maxi dresses and a-line sun dresses. I like them both because they tend to hide the curves in the lower part of our bodies while focusing on our strengths (namely our chest, shoulders, neck and head). When you purchase your dress, make sure to choose a high-quality fabric with a bit of lycra in it.
A Kick-Ass Sweatshirt
Hoodies are great. But everyone has a hoodie. My son, his friends, my daughter, my mom, the dog….they all have hoodies. What they don’t have is a kick-ass sweatshirt. Sweatshirts have come a LONG way since our college XXL looks like a gunny-sack days. Sweatshirts now have cowl-necks, button details, one-shoulder and are made of different materials than just 100% cotton. You’ll look sporty in these regardless if you are wearing jeans, capris, or shorts.
Any Shoes But Tennis Shoes
The rule that sporty attire has to be worn with tennis shoes is old news. (You still can…but it isn’t a requirement.) Now sandals and ankle-high boots are as common as the old Nikes. Details still matter, so find a pair of shoes that has one “fun” detail to it…it might be the color, heel, buckle, or material, but be willing to treat your feet to some eye candy too. (This super sporty wedge sandal is the Caslynn Cheryl from Clarks. Cute and comfortable.)
A Hat By Any Other Name
Have a bad hair day? Just get done at the gym? No problem, throw on a hat. There are so many great hats available now…crocheted beanie, felt, fedora, cowboy, baseball, cadet, etc. that just putting one on (vs those hideous headband things) elevates our sporty level.
Do you need to get rid of your yoga pants and t-shirts? No. But why not try a few of these ideas in addition to your regular rotation of clothes and see if you don’t feel a little more sporty. But how about you….what do you wear?
