Have you been mourning the loss of daylight this month?
I’m not a fan of early sunsets – and I really don’t like that its dark before dinner is over at our house. But there is an upside to those earlier evenings – Nighttime Fall Adventures!
Kids love exploring outside on a cool, fall evening! Take a walk around your neighborhood and check out the houses that are decked out for Halloween.
Or take the kids on an Owl Hunt. If you live near a park or wooded area, you may hear them (or if you’re lucky, see one!). Kids will enjoy some of these great owl-focused books, crafts and even a cool snack! If you’d like to see an owl up close, consider visiting Ernie Miller Nature Center.
Kids who love looking at the stars will enjoy an evening out at Powell Observatory this month. The observatory hosts public viewing sessions for families during the fall. Visitors can view the planets, stars and amazing objects in space through the largest telescope in a 5-state area! And this week, the world is celebrating Space Week – enjoy a few great books about space, along with some fun night-time activities you can do at home.
And speaking of night-time activities, you might even consider a camp out in your own backyard! Pitch a tent, enjoy a few evening activities and snuggle into your sleeping bags under the stars.
If you and the kids are more adventurous, there are some great evening events around the city. Lakeside Nature Center will host their Magic Woods with crafts, face-painting and animal fun. Deanna Rose Farmstead has the great “Night of Living Farmstead” event, and Waterfire (an evening of floating bonfires and entertainment) takes place at the Country Club Plaza later this month.
Check our Kansas City Fall Calendar for all the details along with more great October events.
Enjoy those Autumn Evenings!
