Looking for some good activities to do with the kids this Fall? (Outside of just another pumpkin patch?) I’m so excited to bring you this on-going resource from my friend Jacquie Fisher who is the author and curator of KCEdventures. I saw her speak a couple of years ago and was BLOWN away at her knowledge of the KC area. Be sure to look for other Edventures in weeks to come.
From fall festivals to stunning foliage, autumn in Kansas City is a wonderful season! It’s a great time to get outside, enjoy some family activities and explore a new attraction or two.
There are a number of wonderful locations for families to enjoy during fall –
Ernie Miller Nature Center is a great place to explore in the fall. They have owls – kids (and many adults) love watching these beautiful creatures! The center offers a nature story-time for kids every other Wednesday, along with some great special events – younger children will enjoy meeting the Good Fairy and Forest Friends at Halloween Whimsical Woods (costumes encouraged!) and older kids and teens will enjoy a walk thru the night-time woods during Haunted Kansas!
Autumn is also apple-time in Kansas City! Spend a crisp fall afternoon at a local orchard to pick-your-own apples! A trip to the Louisburg Cider Mill is also a fun tradition – watch as apples are pressed into cider and try a cider donut. Explore our Apple Activities to find a pick-your-own apple orchard, learn about great books to read with kids and some fun recipes to try at home.
Burr Oak Woods Nature Center is another great place to visit during fall! The many hiking trails weave thru scenic woods and are a nice place to view leaves as they change colors. Burr Oak Woods also offers many free programs for kids and families – nature clubs, homeschooler events and weekend family programs that highlight bats, hiking and archery.
If you enjoy staying close to home this season, we recommend some wonderful books about fall along with nature activities that kids can do in their own backyard!
Please stop by our Kansas City Fall Events Calendar to find more fun things to do this autumn.
Enjoy the season!

KCEdventures mission is to strengthen a child’s passion for learning and interaction by providing support to adults through a comprehensive website that highlights experiences that are fun for all ages. (In my speak, they give you ideas that combine hands-on, with books, and places to go in Kansas City.)
