Both of my kids earn an allowance – the have a set of chores and track their progress with an online chore chart.
DS who is nine makes $5.00 per week.
DD who is six makes $3.00 per week.
We have chose to give them an allowance so they understand it takes time to save for items they really want (like an iPod Touch).
They are required to put some in long-term savings, some in giving and the rest they can spend how they want.
But because it is taking them SO LONG to save for items they want, I was wondering if we were giving them an acceptable amount.
That’s where you come in.

This is a conversation we’re having in the Ebates Savvy Living Community. I’m a Community Leader there and I love that we can weigh in about all sorts of crazy things (like laundry, parenting, fashion, cooking, and more.) I’d love to have you join me there and you can actually chime in from right here on Kansas City Mamas. I’ve embedded this conversation below.
If you’re not familiar with Ebates, you’ll want to check it out. You receive cash back when you shop online. So it is like getting a discount – and who doesn’t like saving a few extra dollars.
PS : My favorite answer so far has been instead of allowance – giving them chores to correspond to rewards. Interesting.
