Our family are avid teeth brushers.
We brush in the morning. We brush at night.
And since we brushed twice a day, I thought that meant we were gold-star material for Oral Care.
WRONG.
Did you know that brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth?
Did you know that NOT using a rinse like Listerine means you are missing 70% of plaque and 36% of gingivitis?
Did you know that kiddos should starting brushing as soon as they have their first tooth? And flossing once they have two teeth touching?
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and Walmart & LISTERINE are challenging the Snyder Family to a 3-Week Oral Care Challenge where we will be required to brush twice, rinse twice, and floss once daily. (You can find more tips for oral care here.)
The kids (and the grown ups) got new toothbrushes (Barbie and Phineas & Ferb – and let me tell you it was hard not to take Phineas & Ferb), mouthwash, and Reach floss. We have a handy dandy chart that will track our progress and hopefully help us all develop the new habit.
(BTW: My kids were EXCITED for their new toothbrushes. You would have thought that Christmas had come again! Need to remember that trick for the reward box later on…)
So these are some of the things we are going to do over the next three weeks:
We are also going to institute a family brush time in the morning and the evening, so the kids will see Mom and Dad brushing and flossing too.
Because we are not great flossers (there is just not enough time in the day), we are going to floss every night after dinner.
We are going to rinse once a day, in the evening.
So I’ll give you an update in three weeks on how we are doing, some of the reward techniques we used, and the reactions of the kiddos and Hubs.
(And I’ll also have a crazy, good giveaway.)
