Thirsty Thursday is the quest to drink good, cheap wine that is $10.00 and under. Want some more recommendations? Check out the past cheap wine posts on Thirsty Thursday.
School is out for the summer.
That means a couple of things in the Snyder Household.
#1: Mama, DS, and DD have to become adjusted to being around each other 24/7 again. This is usually a two-week process that includes lots of “go to your room and think about it” moments and “I heard you, I just need to go to the bathroom by myself.”
#2: It’s going to get HOT. And that means more time at the pool and meats on the grill and salads, so not to ruin the beauty that is air-conditioning.
And when it gets that HOT, it can be a challenge to want to drink a heavy red wine. You are already parched from the heat – you don’t want your mouth to feel all full of tannin too.
So here is my Rose “Pick for the Summer” – 2010 Hey Mambo Kinky Pink from California.
This wine is a blend of 98% Pinot Noir and 2% Chardonnay. The wine is a pale strawberry hue with aromas of orange, strawberry, and summer flowers.
But just because this wine is pink, don’t confuse it with a sweet wine.
With a composition of mostly Pinot Noir, this wine boasts flavors of tart cherries, apricots and finishes with a bit of lemon (thank you Chardonnay), with a crisp acidity which makes it “pop” in your mouth. And while it should be drank cold, when you let it warm up a smidge the flavors to really fly.
This wine would pair spectacularly with a summer salad with fruit, a cheese and fruit plate, fish tacos, or BBQ-slathered brisket. (’cause that’s how we eat it here is KC.)
For those non-white wine drinkers who still enjoy a glass of chilled wine – this is your wine.
For those only-white wine drinkers who want to branch out a bit – this is your wine.
And for all wine drinkers who need some “therapy” after being asked for the 100th time whenthe pool opens – this is your wine.
Don’t forget to use the Thirsty Thursday Wine List when creating your wine shopping list.
Note: This wine should be available at most liquor outlets. Please be responsible when you drink wine – and never drive drunk…seriously, that is just stupid in this day in age.
Disclosure: I was sent a bottle of 2010 Hey Mambo Kinky Pink to review (yes, the spoils of blogging). However, the opinions about the wine, summer, and the Snyder Summer Adjustment period are all my own.
How about you? Do you have a favorite summer time wine? Leave a comment or link up – because life is too short to drink bad wine.
