Thirsty Thursday: Hob Nob Pinot Noir

Thirsty Thursday is the quest to drink good, cheap wine that is $10.00 and under. Want some more recommendations? Check out the past cheap wine posts on Thirsty Thursday.

I have to admit to you…this is one of the hardest reviews I have EVER had to do for a wine.

Why, you may ask?

Because I loved this wine and hated it, all at the same time.

Which I’m sure leads you to believe you should DEFINITELY buy this wine, right?

Here is the deal.

The 2009 Hob Nob Pinot Noir is not what I would characterize as a Pinot Noir.

I’ve tasted a lot of Pinot Noir and this wine is too cherry and sweet to be thought of as a Pinot Noir. It is more like a blend (remember, that is when they mix several different varieties together to make a nice tasting wine.)

The nose has a strong smell of raisin, cherry and coca-cola. And while this seems strange, I’ve drank wine that smelled like barnyard. money, and figs before and it tasted great. So the smell didn’t deter me.

And I really enjoyed my first glass. It is a very easy-drinking wine. Not too many tannins, good fruit, with a hint of spice.

But by the second glass, I realized it was a little too cherry and sweet for me.

So why am I recommending it?

Because this wine is excellent pick for new wine drinkers who are just starting to drink red wine and normally prefer a more sweet beverage. They will enjoy every glass and the experienced wine drinker will enjoy a taste or two.

And since I believe that wine is an experience that is best shared by friends…this bottle will be more fun than a stuffy bottleĀ  that newbie wine drinkers can’t stand because they think it tastes like wood.

And I can relate. Because when I started drinking wine, I drank MORE than my share of German Rieslings that would send me into a sugar coma now.

And even though my tastes have changed it does not make one wine better than another. Every wine has it’s place and the 2009 Hob Nob Pinot Noir is a great red wine for the non-red wine drinker.

Note: This wine should be available at most liquor outlets. Please be responsible when you drink wine – and never drive drunk…seriously, that is just stupid in this day in age.
