Have you heard?
Sprouts Farmer’s Market opened its first location in Kansas City on Wednesday in Overland Park (135th & Metcalf)!
I was excited to learn what the buzz was all about. And let me tell you, it lived up to the hype. Aside from the pomp and circumstance (no, really, there was a marching band), the store was open, airy, and easy to navigate. There were staff available in every aisle to answer questions – everything just felt friendly.
There is a little bit of everything at Sprouts. True to its name, it feels like a farmer’s market with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, barrels of nuts and grains, and deli items. There are also everyday staples with brands you’d find at your typical grocer as well as specialty items, including a wide array of organic, natural, and gluten-free products.
For my inaugural trip, I shopped the store circular. Here is what I got:

Organic Bananas, Chobani Greek Yogurt (2), 2 lb deli prepared meatloaf, Sprouts white bread, 1 pineapple, organic baby spinach, organic oranges (4 lbs), sweet potatoes (4 lbs), cherry tomatoes, farm fresh chicken (3.5 lbs), Sprouts peanut butter, Annie’s Organic Salad Dressing, organic apples (4lbs), Sprouts Eggs, Sprouts frozen veggies (2), spaghetti (2), and a nifty reusable grocery bag (FREE).
Grand total: $39.82.
I try to shop organic when I can. Sprouts made it easy. The organic bananas at $.48/lb were the exact same price as the regular bananas. The organic apples at $.88/lb were actually cheaper than some other types of regular apples. The organic baby spinach for $2.00 was less than my buy-it price for boxed salad at other grocery chains.
Be sure to check out the Double Ad Wednesday deals – the store circulars run Wednesday-Wednesday, so you can shop the deals from both ads on Wednesdays. I’ll definitely be adding this store in to my weekly rotation. And, you can expect Kansas City Mamas to list the weekly ad match-ups soon!
