I LOVE These Things: A Podcast, A Dot, & A Promise

I LOVE THESE THINGS

Sniff.

I officially have a pre-high schooler on my hands.

We attended the high school open house last Wednesday and then sat down with the list of classes and tried to figure out his schedule.

Here are the things I know…

  1. He seems way to short and slight to play with the big boys next year. Seriously, there are grown men in that school.
  2. I can’t believe how many electives there are!!! Granted I went to a small, country school, but our electives were accounting, shop and home economics.
  3. Some of the parents look OLD. Like OLD. And then I wondered, do I look OLD? Do I have that many wrinkles?
  4. He’s ready.

Now, on to a few things I’m loving and want to share with all of you (and they have nothing to do with high school or wrinkle cream).

My Dad Wrote A Porno Podcast

No. I didn’t have a typo. This is the name of the podcast.

And, if you love off-color humor, then without a doubt, you HAVE to check out this podcast. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve listened to in a LONG time.

(Warning. It is FAR AWAY from an R rating. It’s truly a porno. Don’t let little ears listen. And if this offends you, move right on down to #2. It’s a way safer topic.)

Here is the overview.

Imagine if your Dad wrote a dirty book. Most people would try to ignore it and pretend it had never happened – but not Jamie Morton. Instead, he’s decided to read it to the world in this hilarious comedy podcast. With the help of his friends, James Cooper and BBC Radio 1’s Alice Levine, Jamie reads a chapter a week and discovers more about his father than he ever bargained for.

Here’s why I love it.

1. It’s British. The accents are awesome.
2. The uncomfortableness of Jamie’s voice reading the words his dad wrote is pure pain and pleasure wrapped into one. And that may have been too much, except…
3. It may be the worst porno novel ever written. Seriously. It’s so bad.
4. And because it is so bad, Jamie’s friends have a blast tearing it apart.

I will warn you that you need to get three episodes in for the rhythm between Jamie and his friends to get going, but once it does, it’s hilarious – each episode is truly better than the last. (It reminds me of when me and my girlfriends sit around with wine and make fun of Fast & the Furious. Only instead of a bad movie, it’s a bad porno novel.) Dot

I’ve had an Amazon Echo for a year and a half. And while I LURVE her, I didn’t love her sound quality. I really wanted something that I could connect to our whole house stereo system

Enter Dot.

Dot is Alexa’s little sister and she can connect with any Bluetooth receiver to allow better sound quality. We hooked her up to our “traditional stereo system” using this device. (So, all in, under $70.)

And now, oh…my…word is the sound so much better. Plus, since she can travel, we take her with us into the room we are using and let her do her thing. It’s perfect for when I want music in the kitchen or on the screened porch or in the basement.

And oh, my word, is the sound quality better.

Plus, since she is with me all the time (or you can buy multiple and spread them through out the house), I’m more apt to use all of her cool features.

I’m pretty sure I need to write a post on all the cool stuff Alexa can do…

A Promise

I made a promise at the beginning of the year that I would write an I LOVE THESE THINGS every week. And so far, so good.

(It is only the beginning of February, but whatever.)

With that being said, I believe that I lead a pretty dull life, so I struggle some weeks to find things to share with you. Are there subjects or information that you want me to write about? If so…what are they? I’d love to have a little direction so I can make sure I’m sharing the RIGHT STUFF with you and not boring you out of your ever-loving mind. So if you don’t mind…leave me a comment and give me some ideas of things you’d like me to cover in I LOVE THESE THINGS.
