I LOVE These Things: Nail Art, When Calls The Heart & Sanuks

I LOVE THESE THINGS

SCHOOLS OUT FOR THE SUMMER!!!

And I may have just whimpered a little bit.

🙂

In all honesty, I’m looking forward to having my little weirdos home. (Even though they are not so little anymore…my oldest is going to turn 13 in two and half weeks.) I’m going to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, a chance to pour into them while reminding them of who they are…and not what peer pressure tells them to be, and the pool.

Man, I do love the pool.

I realize it has been a LONG TIME since I wrote an “I LOVE THESE THINGS”. To be honest, there were many reasons…wondering if anyone gave a damn about anything I liked, being very busy with the launch of Adore Your Wardrobe, and frankly, running out of stuff to be in love with.

But, I decided this week to say, “whatever” and start back up. My three things may be things, or random stuff that happened during the week, or just jibberish…but it will be here every Saturday during the summer. 🙂

OMG Patty Nail Art

I’m loving nail art.

Truth. I LOVE getting my nails done.

Before kids, I used to have acrylic nails and rocked a “pink & white french manicure” all.the.time. I loved my nail tech. She was amazing. She was part artist and part therapist … all rolled into one.

Fast forward to after having kids.

And I still liked to get my nails done, but it was more of a treat that happened every few months, because frankly who wants gorgeous nails while wiping dirty bottoms?

And then I met Patty from OMG! Who Does Your Nails? and my world was rocked. Not only does she do BEAUTIFUL NAIL ART, but she gives the best manicures. So much so, that I can wear gel manicures and not have my nails be torn up afterwards. And the best part…it’s only a few dollars more than nail salons that are all over town.

My next appointment is in a few days. Which design do you think I should get? I’m kind of leaning toward this one.

When Calls The Heart

I’m loving the show When Calls The Heart.

My daughter and I were looking for a show to watch together. We enjoy the evening snuggle after dinner and before bath and bed.

But the choices for age-appropriate shows that both a mom and pre-teen girl can both like are SLIM.

Luckily, I stumbled on When Calls The Heart on Netflix and we fell in love.

Based on Janette Oke’s books about the Canadian West, the best way I can describe it is “a modernly written, yet period show similar to Little House on The Prairie.” Which is not surprising, since one of the executive producers in Michael Landon, Jr and it is on the Hallmark Channel.

Here is a more “formal” overview:

Elizabeth Thatcher is a young teacher accustomed to high society, so she experiences culture shock when she gets her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley. Life in the small mining town is filled with challenges. A recent explosion has killed more than a dozen of the town’s miners. Abigail Stanton, whose husband was foreman at the site of the tragedy, welcomes Thatcher and tries to help her adjust to frontier customs. Constable Jack Thornton, also a newcomer, is not as welcoming, because he believes Thatcher’s wealthy father doomed his career by assigning him to Coal Valley so he could protect Elizabeth. Over time, though, Elizabeth and Jack become closer and begin a relationship.

As you can probably guess, a big chunk of the drama is the romance between Jack and Elizabeth.

I love it. I love having a “chic-show” I can watch with my daughter that is completely appropriate. Is it a little cheesy? Sure. But who cares. Sometimes a little cheese, a little romance, a few snuggles with my daughter and a bowl of popcorn is what the soul needs.

My husband calls it our G-Rated Canadian Soap-Opera. He’s not invited to watch anymore.

Sanuk Flip Flops

I’m loving Sanuk Flip-Flops.

As we march into flip-flop season, I thought I would share with you my FAVORITE pair of flip-flops ever. LIKE EVER-EVER.

Sanuk Yoga Joy Flip-Flops.

I got these during some super sale two years ago, but after having them for two years, I would gladly pay full price with a smile.

They are made of “yoga mat” material and the material forms to your feet. Need arch support? Got it. Need more support in the heel? Got it. Plus, without a doubt, they are the most comfortable shoes I own. In fact, I’ve worn them for a 12-hour video shoot (aka…you couldn’t see my feet) without an issue.

If you need new flip flops, I encourage you to upgrade past the $2 Old Navy ones…the Sanuks are worth every penny.

Plus, here is What I’m Watching On Amazon Prime, What I’m Laughing At and What We Are Eating.

What are you loving this week? Leave a comment and let me know…especially age-appropriate shows…we are about done with ours on Netflix.
