I’m a flip-flop girl when it comes to personal computing.
I was a PC girl. PC computer. PC phone. PC software and apps.
Then I bought an iPhone and became a MAC girl. Mac computer. iPhone. iTunes software and apps.
Then I bought a ROKU and got Amazon Prime Instant Video. And then bought a Kindle Fire. And finally bought my kids an Xbox 360 Kinect for Christmas.
So my new mantra – I’m a PC Mother Mac. I’m a little bit of everything and I usually look good doing it. (Not really, but it sounded good when I was typing it.)
And speaking of looking good…have you been to the new Microsoft Store in Oak Park Mall?
(It’s near Build A Bear – that is important in just a minute.)
It is a bright and happy place for all cool tech gadgets – inlcuding Surface, Desktops, Xbox 360 (which includes the important Maden NFL and Minecraft games) and Smartphones. (Kind of like their Pinterest Page.)
In addition to the technology wonderland that it is, the Microsoft Retail Store has some REALLY COOL features.

It holds classes throughout the month that are FREE. Classes for kiddos. Classes for adults. Classes on software. Classes on hardware. Classes on how to create a video game. (And they are FREE.) Check out the FREE classes available in your local area.
It has a FREE meeting space that can also be used for birthday parties. Yep, I’ve attended a Skylander’s Birthday party where the boys got to play their games on the big screen. (Again, it was FREE.)
It has tech support. Problem with your PC or Xbox – bring it in. Your son and husband can’t figure out how to get the second controller working on the Xbox 360. No problem. Bring in the controllers and the nice people will run diagnostics and tell you the issue. (It was operator error…aka them.) And teach you how to set it up without feeling dumb. (I didn’t. Hubs and DS – a little bit.)
It has group activities. You can schedule activities for your homeschool, Boy’s Scout or Girl Scout groups at the store. Curriculum is already created and includes a special “technical” teacher to help the kiddos out with their assignments.
And finally, that Build A Bear reference earlier…in the past whenever we went to the mall, the number one request was “Build A Bear”. Now, it is “Microsoft Store.” Because it is ALL ABOUT Fresh Paint and Madden ’13.
And because I want you all to experience the Microsoft Retail store, I’m giving away (1) $100 Microsoft Store Gift Card to a lucky KCM reader.
