For us, Houlihan’s is a local restaurant. While it is a national chain, its roots are here in Kansas City, and we think of this Leawood based business as a local bar and grill.
In fact, it is my “after-PTA-meeting-spot” on Tuesday nights. (It doesn’t hurt that it has 1/2 price wine that night, but that is another story.) And as a regular at Houlihan’s, I’ve noticed some changes over the last year.
First, lots of the locations have gone through an amazing redesign. The new decor, outside eating area, and bar are STUNNING.
Second, they have revamped their food to be less “MORE is MORE” and more “Fresh Ingredients Matter”.
Their new special menu is filled with craveable lighter fare items that are 590 calories or less. Even better…it’s not just a bunch of fillers, but real food made with flavorful ingredients.
I was able to try out their new Rice Noodle Salad with Ginger-Soy Prime Top Sirloin last week and it was one of the most flavorful salads I’ve ever had. It was a blend of salad greens, ginger, lime, soy and jalapeños. (It had some KICK, but when in the last time you said that about a salad?) And better yet, it had an awesome piece of steak on the top. 🙂
The kids were with me for this trip and I have to say the Houlihan’s Kid’s Menu is the best value-to-dollar ratio. For $5.95, they are greeted with carrot sticks and ranch. And then their entree comes with one of six sides (including mashed potatoes) and they end the meal with a HUGE scoop of vanilla ice cream. My kids were full, I felt like the meal was balanced and they got dessert. WIN-WIN.
