Frugal Idea: End of Year Teacher’s Gifts

Ah, it is the last week of school for DS…and with it the end of car pool, homework, and having to get out of my jammies before 8AM. But also, a time to love on those AMAZING teachers and principals who influence and support our kiddos for nine months out of a year.

I used to struggle with the “right” gift to give a teacher. I have been known to go in on “gift cards” or a potted plant. But each $10 here and another $10 there added up and wrecked havoc on my monthly budget. So this year I got creative and gave both of my kiddos teachers spa gift baskets.

Any guess how much I spent?

Just $2.00.

The Olay products I got for FREE after one or another Olay rebate and the Glade Candle was FREE after the SC Johnson Rebate. The only out-of-pocket was for the baskets (which I scored at garage sales), the puffy scrubby, and some fake grass to put in the bottom. Overall, I think they turned out great. It looks like I spent a fortune, but really I just shopped out of my stockpile.

The only addition – a heart-felt, hand-written card to the teacher thanking her for putting up (I mean teaching) my DS this whole year. She got him interested in science and reading – and those attributes will last a lifetime.

What about you? What frugal end-of-year gifts did you come up with?
